Kurgan's Bane "Search from sea to sea" english summary

Die aus Baltimore stammende Progrock/metal-Formation KURGAN's BANE legt mit "Search from sea to sea" ein Coverartwork vor, das durch seine Naivität absolut eigenständig wirkt (und das ist nicht abwertend gemeint).

Musikalisch sind KURGAN'S BANE irgendwo zwischen Fates Warning (aber sehr selten), Yes und den leider längst verblichenen Zeiten von Van Halen einzuordnen. Auch wenns an der manchen Stelle nocht nicht so ganz rund klingt, bietet die CD reihenweise gut Ansätze. Vor allem die einfallsreichen Gesangslinien sind absolut interessant (z.b. gleich beim Opener Four day dream). Auch im Midtempobereich (Incomplete) sind gute Ansätze hörbar. An das Intro von Van Halens Little Guitars erinnert das Demohighlight Just look at me now. Gefühlvoll, melodisch, und dennoch durchzogen von leicht komplexen Akkorden und sogar treibenden Riffs. Auch das spannende Intermezzo und kurzzeitig Fates Warning-würdige Intermezzo im sonst durchschnittlichen The Beast verdient Beachtung.

Unverkennbar ! Es gibt sehr gute Ansätze herauszuhören. Um eine wirklich gute Platte zu hören, muß das ganze noch einen Tick runder klingen und vor allem gesanglich einer deutliche Leistungs- und Ausdruckssteigerung her. So gibts "nur" hoffnungsvolle 4 Punkte.

This album is like it's artwork. Kind of naive but somehow outstanding and looking promising for the future. KURGAN's BANE sometimes sound influenced by Yes, Fates Warning and a little bit of Van Halen during their earlier days. Most of the songs on this album show that there's lot of potential inside this band. Especially the vocal melodies are unique and interesting (like in the opener Four day dream and the album highlight Just look at me know). This song is melodic, warm and even features some groovin' riffs. This demo would have been great if the vocals would have been more precise and would carry more impressions .... more different faces. I am sure that this band will get better and I am really curious on their next demo release. Promising 4 points
