Listen "Close your eyes and you're there" english summary

Die US-Band LISTEN bezeichnet ihre Musik als progressive Fusion aus Metal, Rock, Jazz und Ethno.

Diese Kritik schreibe ich mit einem lachenden und einem weinende Auge. Lachend, weil man aus dem durchschnittlichem Demosound das kompositorische Potential des Vierers deutlich heraushören kann, das streckenweise schweinegut abgeht, aber auch viele gelungene Ruhepole und tolle progressive Elemente beinhaltet. Weinend, weil man mit den größtenteils grauenvollen Vocals alles wieder zunichte macht. Paradebeispiel: Der Opener Methuselah's children ... dramatischer Metal mit progmetallischen Anleihen, die mehrstimmigen Vocals während des Refrains lassen leider die Toten auferstehen - zudem ist der Song um mindestens 4 Minuten zu lang.
Broken glass hätte ohne die klimperigen Keyboards und einige Verspieler Hymnenpotential, wenn man sich den Song in fettem Sound vorstellt.

Wie eine Mischung aus den DOORS und Metal präsentiert sich das 21-Minuten Instrumental-Opus Lifecycles ... psyechedelisch, progrockig, progmetallisch, klassisch orchestral, jazzig ... einfach packend ! Mit Fear of the dark reissen Listen sodann keine Bäume aus, setzen jedoch mit dem japanisch-beinflussten Keyboard-Track Cursing Infinity einen versöhnlichen Schlusspunkt.

Mit dem Gesang und mit dem Sound ist "Close your eyes and you're there sicher nicht zu gebrauchen. Die Band ist aber auf jeden Fall gut beraten, eine Gesangsröhre zu verpflichten, etwas Geld fürs Studio zusammenzukratzen und dann die Kuh fliegen zu lassen, denn das Potential der Kompositionen ist enorm Wertung: 5

"Close your eyes and you're there" from the US band "Listen" really is a pity to review. On the one hand, the composition that shine through the noisy sound are really great, are varied, progressive, damn heavy and intelligent. On the other hand the band is not able to present their songs in the way they were meant to capture the audience. For example Methusela's children has smashing metal parts, but the vocals (especially during the refrain) are simply terrible. ! With more precise playing and fat sound Broken glass could be a hammer hymn. But the stunning 21-minute instrumental opus Lifecycles (sounds like a mixture of psychedelic progmetal, the DOORS, classical and orchestral music) forces me to bow down in front of the four US metalheads.
With this sound and that vocals LISTEN are not a big recommendation. But as the songwriting is so good and the playing skills are not far away of being capable of playing the written songs in a great manner, the band should really look out for a great metal vocalist, grab together some money and enter the studio in order to give their music the power that it needs. I am looking forward to their next releases because LISTEN sound very promising to me ! 5 points
