After Forever "Prison of Desire" english summary

Die Auszeichnung "Schönstes Artwork der letzten 5 Jahre" ist der holländischen Melancholic Gothic-Metalband AFTER FOREVER schon mal sicher. Wunderschöne Bilder von romantischer Vergänglichkeit und melancholischem Zauber, getaucht in tiefes Waldesblau.

Die Musik hält spielend, was das Artwork verspricht. Was NIGHTWISH in punkto Gesang und melodischem Speed-Power-Metal erreicht haben, das gelingt AFTER FOREVER mit Soprangesang und epischem Black Metal bzw. Gothic-Metal. Die Holländer gehen dabei härter als z.B. TRISTANIA ans Werk und streifen sogar gelegentlich das Bombast-Black-Metal-Terrain (Black Tomb). Ansonsten gibts Altbewährtes, nämlich erstklassigen Gothicmetal mit schwerfällig düsteren Riffs, mit Soprangesang und effektiven Dunkelvocals-Counterparts. Die Gesangslinien und Kompositionen sind komplexer als bei vielen Bands des Genres. AFTER FOREVER heben sich somit selbst während ruhiger Passagen kräftig von schwülstigem Gothicrock der Marke THEATER OF TRAGEDY ab. Der absolute Überflieger kommt in Form des Tracks Follow in the cry, den selbst NIGHTWISH nicht besser hinbekommen hätten. Egal ob sich ihr Gothic Metal manchmal nahe an den Grenzen zu Black Metal, Powermetal oder Gothic Rock bewegt ... AFTER FOREVER klingen jederzeit eigenständig und düster-orchestral.

Wer in seiner Black-Metal-Gruft immer einen Geheimgang zum Gothic-Friedhof offen hat (und umgekehrt), sollte seinen Sarg mit AFTER FOREVER verzieren. Wertung: 7

AFTER FOREVER are a band from the Netherlands. Transmission Records were lucky to sign them. The CD comes with a beautiful artwork and features 54 minutes of powerful gothic metal with soprano vocals as well as efficient grunting vocals. A few times AFTER FOREVER remind me of NIGHTWISH (i.e. Follow in the cry), but NIGHTWISH are more on the melodic powermetal side of gothic metal. AFTER FOREVER sound unique, the melodies of the soprano vocals are more complex than in similar bands and their music music can be positioned between gothic metal, epic black metal and (during two tracks) gothic rock. So if your black metal crypt has a gate that leads to the gothmetal graveyard (or the other way round), you should invite AFTER FOREVER into your tomb ! 7 points
