Art Of Illusion "Labyrinth of fate" english summary

ART OF ILLUSION konnten ja bereits mit ihrer 98er Demo "Delight" auf sich aufmerksam machen. Mit ihrem neustem Output "Labyrinth of Fate" gehen die 5 Schwaben nun verschärft auf Vertriebssuche.

Von der 98er Demo sind noch folgende Songs vertreten: Das melodisch powernde und keyboarduntermalte Living dead (immer noch ein absolutes Highlight !), das eher verhaltene und getragene Zombies of society und der progressive Hardrocker The star. Auch die neuen Songs vermischen in gewohnter Weise melodischen Hardrock mit Elementen aus dem Progmetal-Sektor. Als Highlights zu nennen wären u.a.: das dramatische und keyboardflächen-getränkte Between the years, das durch tolle Gesangslinien und progmetallische Einlagen besticht, das progmetallische Riddles, das verhangen-dramatische Labyrinth of fate und das hymnische Sun goes down. Auf diesen Tracks schaffen es ART OF ILLUSION, einen Bogen zu spannen, der die Tracks von Beginn an ins Ohr pinnt. Mit Raise the glass hat man sich keinen Gefallen getan, denn diesem Track fehlt sowohl Flair als auch die griffigen Elemente. Soundtechnisch bedürfen die Aufnahmen wohl noch einem Mastering-Durchlauf, da der Druck von unten irgendwie noch nicht genug ist.

ART OF ILLUSION beweisen mit "Labyrinth of Fate", daß sie das Niveau des Vorgängers locker halten, ja sogar leicht anheben konnten. Wenn die Jungs beim nächsten Album etwas an den Gesangslinien schrauben (wie das z.B. bei den Highlights des Albums hervorragend gelungen ist) und die Vocals noch einen Tick voller und souveräner klingen, dann sollte einem Durchbruch nichts mehr im Wege stehen. Wertung: 6

We already have featured the german band ART OF ILLUSION with their demo "Delight" (1998). With their new demo "Labyrinth of fate" they're trying to get a distributor. From their 1998-demo there are three tracks on this album: Living dead (still a highlight), Zombies of society and The star. ART OF ILLUSION still play progmetal on the borderline to melodic hardrock. Among the new songs there are three highlights: the dramatic Between the years (great vocal melodies and progmetal parts), the floating Labyrinth of fate and the hymn Sun goes down. These three tracks show that ART OF ILLUSION are able to pin their tracks in to the ear of the listener. "Labyrinth of fate" at least is on the same level as "Delight". If the band makes the vocals more powerful, improves the vocal melodies and gives the CD another soundmastering run, then there should be no difficulty in finding a label deal. 6 points
