Auhra "Shadows of infinity" english summary

Aus Italien stammt das metallische Sextett AUHRA.

"We have no fixed patterns" so tönt es aus der Band-Info. Und tatsächlich tue ich mich schwer, AUHRA einzuordnen. Lake of emeralds zeigt aber gleich, wohin die Reise geht: symphonisch verzierter Progrock bis Progmetal mit irgendwie trashigem Flair. Zum trashigen Flair trägt auf jeden Fall der für ein Aufnahmestudio nicht gerade rühmliche Sound bei, wie auch die Tatsache, daß manche Übergänge noch etwas holpern. Kompositorisch kann man der Truppe keine Vorwürfe machen ... As shadow of dreams entpuppt sich als mittelalterlich angehauchte Akustik-Ballade, Edges of infinity als sakraler Track mit mehrstimmigen Frauenvocals und hämmerndem Rhythmus. Opera arbeitet effektvoll emotional mit wabernden Gitarren und der guten Stimme von Stefania Paolelli, verfällt aber sobald es härter wird in die 08/15 Kategorie.

Wer auf eine nicht gerade alltägliche Verquickung aus melodischem Rock und ambienten Progmetal - verziert mit orchestralen Momenten - steht, der kann AUHRA auf jeden Fall mal antesten. Der grosse Durchbruch wird mit "Shadows of Infinity" aber noch nicht gelingen. Wertung: 5

The band AUHRA comes from Italy. The band has won a 3-day-session in a professional recording studio while taking part in a rock competition. The result of that recording session is "Shadows of infinity", the first demo CD of AUHRA from 1998. The young band plays ambient rock with some melancholic inclination and progmetal influences. The female voice of Stefania Paolelli is good and especially during slow parts very capturing. The songs are well composed (like the acoustic ballad As shadow of dreams, or the very ambient Opera or the somehow sacral somehow trashin' Edges of infinity) but in some places different parts of a song change not fluently enough. This band sounds very promising and as they are very young, I am sure they will enhance their skills. The weak point of this CD is the garage sound which is not a big score for a professional recording studio (too much hall on the vocals, tinny drums, weak guitars, etc). 5 points
