Chinawhite "Breath Fire" english summary

CHINAWHITE aus den Niederlanden haben Wort gehalten und noch im Jahr 2000 einen Longplayer vorgelegt.

CHINAWHITE spielen melodischen, verorgelten, leicht progressiv-beeinflussten Rock. Musikalisch liegen CHINAWHITE zwischen Bands wie TOTO, FOREIGNER, MARILLION und heavrocklastigen Hardrockbands. Das Album präsentiert sich in gutem Sound, die Songs können leider nicht alle überzeugen, da den Gesangslinien oftmals der Hook fehlt. Vorhanden ist der Hook beispielsweise auf Foolin', My one and only und dem monster-groovigen Instrumental Infatuation. In bester 70er-Manier zeigt sich das progmetallisch angehauchte Losers in the end

CHINAWHITE können nach ihrer vielversprechenden 99er EP die Erwartungen nicht ganz erfüllen. Was unterm Strich bleibt ist ein leider nur durchschnittliches Melodic Rock-Album an der Grenze zum AOR-Prog. Wertung: 5

CHINAWHITE form the Netherlands have promised to release their new longplayer in late 2000 and here it is ... entitled "Breath fire". CHINAWHITE's music can be described as melodic hardrock with progrock influences somewhere beteween bands like TOTO, FOREIGNER, MARILLION and heavyrock-bands. The album comes with very good sound, but unfortunately not all of the songs are convincing as the vocal lines are missing some hooks. Songs with hooks are Foolin, My one and only, Infatuation and the 70ies-style Losers in the end which even tends into the progmetal genre. CHINAWHITE's 1999 EP did set too high expectations for me ... expectations that could not be fulfilled and so this album is endangered to drown in the flood of similar melodic rock / AOR-prog releases. 5 points
