Prologue / Vorab

Im Rahmen von Warm-Up-Konzerten für die Aufnahme eines CURVED AIR-Specials der BBC trat die Band CURVED AIR 1990 noch einige Male auf. Die Aufnahme des TV-Specials fiel dann leider ins Wasser, das Projekt wanderte ins Regal und verstaubte. Glücklicherweise wurden die Warm-Up-Konzerte mitgeschnitten. Vorliegende CD enthält einen 68 minütigen Live-Mitschnitt sowie den extra für die kurze Re-Union geschriebenen Song 20 years on, der von im Publikum auf einem Mono-Kassettenrecorder mitgeschnitten wurde, was die schlechte Soundqualität dieses Tracks entschuldigt.

Rezension

Was gibts zu dieser CD zu sagen ? "Alive 1990" enthält Songs aus den ersten drei CURVED AIR-Alben. Sonja Kristina's Stimme klingt nach wie vor warm und stark und auch sonst hat die Band auf diesen Aufnahmen nichts von ihrem Flair verloren. Songs wie Stretch, It happened today, Young mother oder das Parade-Live-Stück Vivaldi sind nach wie vor äußerst hörenswert.

 
Fazit

Auch wenn der Sound einige Male arg mitgenommen wird (klingt einige Male nach verknittertem Tonband) und während leiser Passagen ziemlich rauscht, ist diese CD nicht nur für CURVED AIR-Fans ein feines Stück Musik sondern auch für melodisch veranlagte Progrockfans im Allgemeinen. Wertung: 6

Summary

In 1990 the BBC planned a CURVED AIR special, which unfortunately was never recorded. For this special CURVED AIR reunited for a short time and performed some warm-up gigs for the broadcast. Luckily these gigs were recorded on tape ... not great sound quality but better than nothing at all. After ten years these tape were taken out of the shelf and brought to CD. This 68 minute album contains a live coverage of the mentioned warm-up gigs, featuring songs from CURVED AIR's first three albums, along with the new song 20 years on which was especially composed for this short reunition. What shall we say on such a band ? Sonja's voice is still strong, warm und powerful. Songs like Stretch, It happened today, Young mother and Vivaldi are as great as in the past. Unfortunately the sound sometimes really sounds like a wrenched old analog tape but die-hard progfans won't hesitate to get this rare recordings ! 6 points
