Eyefear "Dawn - A new beginning" english summary

EYEFEAR sind eine Progressive Metal Band aus Australien. Die Melbourner starteten als Band 1991 in einer Garage. Vor allem ihre 1996er Demo "Edge of Existence" brachte der Band einen guten Schuss Popularität im Underground. Nach dem Zugang eines zweiten Gitarristen melden sich die Jungs von Down under mit einer tollen EP zurück.

Es gibt Demos, da macht ein etwas schlechterer Sound und ein noch nicht ganz ausgereifter Sänger einfach nix aus, weil alles andere stimmt und Spass macht. So ist's bei EYEFEAR. Dezent komplexer Progressive Metal, mit rhythmisch atmosphärischen Passagen und straighten Metal-Anleihen. Hohe Metalvocals, hochanspruchsvolle Kompositionen zwischen ENCHANT, ETERNITY X und 80er Metal-Kultbands, nur eben ne Spur härter, einem beachtenswerten Gespür für die richtige Dosierung aus Eingängigkeit, Komplexität und Spielfreude.

Eine fürs ausgelutschte Progmetalherz wohltuend erfrischende EP von einer Band, von der wir hoffentlich bald eine richtig fette Produktion in Händen halten dürfen. Wenn auch Gesang und Sound eher eine "5-6" sind, so werten Kompositionen und Frische das Ganze auf 7 Punkte auf. Wertung: 7

EYEFEAR are a progmetal band from Melbourne Australia who started as band in 1991. Especially their 1996 demo "Edge of existence" earned them some attention in the underground scene. Now they have a new guitarist (Anthony Porchia) and a new singer Jim Georgopoulos (ex-Hyperion), presenting their new EP "Dawn ... a new beginning".
This is one of these demos which are well composed and fresh enough to forget about the not so good sound. EYEFEAR play complex progmetal far away from boring chlichees. With EYEFEAR progmetal is complex and still very entertaining. High metal vocals, very good compositions between bands like ENCHANT, ETERNITY X (but a more heavy as both of them) and 80ies cult metal bands. EYEFEAR have a great talent in finding the balance between catchy elements, complex arrangements and the joy of playing their instruments.
If you are bored by DREAM THEATER-clones, then you should check out this band from down under. The sound and the vocals are not a 100% perfect, but here this leads to a cosy trashy atmosphere (remember the first FATES WARINING albums ? For example "No exit" sounds like a tin can, but we all love this album !) and by the way: the compositions and the freshness make this EP worth 7 points
