... den Jungs ist mit "Defining the legacy" ein großer Wurf gelungen. Das persönliche Konzeptalbum - es geht um ein Verhältnis zwischen Vater und Sohn - zeigt FLAMBOROUGH HEAD vielschichtiger, symphonischer, komplexer, mutiger, anspruchsvoller und ausgereifter denn je. 7 Songs bringen es auf eine Gesamtspielzeit von 57 Minuten. Wie immer stehen die Keyboards von Siebe und Edo stark im Vordergrund, die Gitarre leistet wie immer solide und wichtige Begleitarbeit. Egal ob das hymnische House of Cards, der vielschichtige Highlight Garden of dreams, der niedlich bis neoprogressiv-komplexe 9-Minüter Assassin, das Instrumental Mind-Sculpture oder der Titletrack Defining the legacy ... FLAMBOROUGH HEAD präsentieren sich als stimmige, harmonische und mächtige Einheit mit Steigerungen in allen Bereichen (auch spieltechnisch), was logischerweise in einem rundum bestechenden Progrock-Album resultiert. Oftmals stehen Keyboard, Gesang und Piano für sich alleine ... was der Nachdenklichkeit des Konzeptes Nachdruck verleiht. Nach all dem Lob bleibt nur ein kleines Manko: Mir fehlt es an den Gesangslinien ein wenig an Melodien und an einigen Stellen an der Abstimmung zwischen Wortwahl der Lyrics und dem Musikverlauf ... macht aber nix, denn es stört wirklich nicht großartig.

Dennoch oder vielleicht gerade deswegen: Ein großes, niemals langweilig werdendes Album einer immer großartiger werdenden Band. Pflichtkauf ! Wertung: 8

"Defining the legacy" is the second Cyclops-release of dutch progrockers FLAMBOROUGH HEAD. This album features Siebe Rein Schaaf on vocals and Andre Cents on the guitar for the last time. Both members are leaving the band with this release.
"Defining the legacy" is a big step for FLAMBOROUGH HEAD. The personal concept story deals with a relationship between a father and his son leading to a dramatic and highly alive album. Of course the keyboards of Siebe and Edo (again) are the dominating element of their music, the guitar gives solid and important companionship. With this album FLAMBOROUGH HEAD have delivered a highlight ... they sound better, more mature, more varied, more complex, more sophisticated and more dramatic than ever before. To mention some of the songs: House of cards is a big hymn, Garden of dreams a varied highlight with many different parts, Assasin is a very nice neoprogrock track and Mind-Sculpture a great sympho instrumental. Often keyboards/piano and vocals stand alone enhancing the thoughtful atmosphere of the lyrics. There's one tiny weak point on this album: the synchronizating of the words chosen for the lyrics with the music during some tracks does not sound round and during a few parts the vocals lack of a capturing melody but that's not very important as this is really a big album ! 8 points
