Kurgan's Bane "The future lies broken" english summary

Nach der nur mäßigen 1997er Demo "Search from sea to sea" legt die Progrock-Formation KURGAN'S BANE aus Baltimore mit neuer Sängerin eine phänomenale Steigerung in Form von "The future lies broken" hin.

KURGAN'S BANE sind in allen Belangen zu einer rundum guten Band gereift: Gesang, Sound und vor allem in kompositorischer Hinsicht. Härtetechnisch gehts von Artrock der Marke MOONDAZE, über die ersten VAN HALEN Scheiben bis hin zu Frickelprog und dezentem Heavyrock, jedoch jederzeit atmosphärisch und stimmig.
Einen Highlight gibts gleich mit dem Opener Through the camera: Herrliche warme Guitarsounds, eingängige Gesangslinien, frecher Bass und verschiedene Härtegrade, das Ganze kommt flüssig strukturiert und sich toll entwickelnd.
An das Intro von Van Halens Little Guitars erinnert das bereits auf der 97er Demo enthaltene Just look at me now. Gefühlvoll, melodisch, und dennoch durchzogen von komplexeren Akkorden und treibenden Riffs. Ein toller Auftakt !
Kernig rockig präsentiert sich Warm winter nights, jedoch gibts auch hier die typischen warmen Guitar-Akkorder im Hintergrund.
Der Dreiteiler Vermin besteht aus: dem streckenweise an die frühen FATES WARNING erinnernden Instrumental Frankie five angels , dem schwebenden Headless Mice (tolle Kombination aus Keyboardfläche und dem einfühlsamen Gesang von Lisa Francis) und dem komplexen Feudal Tourniquet. Mit Nap in e-minor gibts dann ein klassisch-inspiriertes Akustikgitarre-Stück, dem das theatralische Curtain and the rose folgt. Nicht so gelungen sind Bad blood und Regina, die weder melodisch noch gesanglich besondere Akzente setzen können.

Eine tolle Steigerung im Vergleich zur 97er Demo. An der einer handvoll Stellen sitzt Lisa's Gesang noch nicht 100%ig, aber das wird auch noch. Alles in Allem eine rundum empfehlenswerte Underground-Produktion ! Wertung: 7

KURGAN'S BANE are a progrock / melodic rock band from Baltimore. After their average demo from 1997 the band is back with a great step forward. The band now has a female singer (Lisa Francis) who adds a great atmosphere to the songs. The compositions on "The future lies broken" are very good, all tending between progressive rock and melodic rock. The highlights of this very recommendable album: Through the camera (warm guitar sounds, catchy melody, fresh bass playing, ranging from soft melodic progrock to heavy rock), Just look at me now (sensitive song with slightly complex chords and some more powerful riffs) and the epic Vermin which constists of three songs: Frankie five angels (FATES WARNING alike complex instrumental), Headless mice (great floating track with great vocals) and the complex Feudal Tourniquet. Nap in e-minor is a short classically inspired acoustic instrumental. Bad blood is a track that I wouldn't have missed on this album as it contains no highlight. But nethertheless: a cool and refreshing underground album ! Check it out ! 7 points
