Longshot "Asylum" english summary

Michael Reese dürfte einigen von Euch von der Homepage ProgJet ein Begriff sein. Daß Michael in seinem heimischen Studio an einer Instrumental-Synthi-Progscheibe gebastelt hat, war mir neu.

Die Scheibe präsentiert sich in soundtechnisch noch nicht ganz zufriedenstellender Form. Macht aber nichts, denn es ist eine Demo-Version aus dem heimischen Studio. Die CD wird im Lauf des nächsten Jahres in einem professionellen Studio mit Musikern aufgenommen und über Cyclops Records vertrieben werden ... da ist der Sound dann auch state of the Art.
Musikalisch steht instrumentaler Synthi-Prog mit Drums, (echter) Gitarre, Keyboards/Synthies und Bass auf dem Programm. Einige Songs besitzen Gesang, der allerdings stark verbesserungswürdig ist und (auch dank Hall) mehr sägt als klingt. Die Kompositionen sind zumeist eher von der schnelleren Sorte ... pulsierender Synthi-Neoprog, der sich stark um Abwechslung bemüht, meistens jedoch immer ein paar Minuten zu lang ist, da die (immer guten) Schemas / Themen zu oft aufgegriffen und wiederholt werden. Als Vergleich kommen einem manchmal Yes in den Sinn. Zudem vergeht fast keine halbe Sekunde, während der man mal kein Schlagzeug hört ... stehende Töne zugleich bei allen Instrumenten gibt es leider auch zu selten.

Gute Einfälle, die jedoch zu langatmig und dröge präsentiert werden. Wenn die CD 30 Minuten statt 70 Minuten umfassen würde, wäre sie ein vielleicht ein heißer Tipp, so hat man leider nur eine langatmige Computerarie. Wertung: 2

Michael Reese might be known to the prog-websersurfers because of ProgJet. The album will be recorded during the next time and will be released through Cyclops. The album shall then have 5 musicians and no more synthetic instruments. Now let's go back to this demo of the upcoming album. Michael has pre-recorded the new album of LONGSHOT in his home studio ... so the instruments are syntesizer-generated. Sometimes the music is reminding me of YES. Some of the songs contain vocals but unfortunately the vocals are not able to add more atmosphere to the song ... they steal it away instead as they are more sawing than sounding. The compositions show some very good themes and ideas ... unfortunately they are repeated too often and are accompanied by a drumming that never seems to keep silent for a single second. There are not many parts on this album where all instruments keep a chord or a tune for 2 or 3 seconds ... making this album a hectic and restless experience. If this album would have been cut down to 30 minutes, it would have been a pretty good and promising release. But with 70 minutes it is far too long. But nethertheless ... this is just a pre-release ... the real album will be recorded in a studio with human musicians ... so we're excited what it will sound like then. 2 points
