IQ-Keyboarder Martin Orford veröffentlicht mit dieser Scheibe sein erstes Soloalbum, unterstützt wird er dabei von den Mitgliedern von IQ, Jadis und von John Wetton.

Orford verzichtet im Booklet auf die Lyrics, dafür gibt es Liner-Notes zu jedem der Songs, die schnell deutlich machen, dass es sich hier um Songs handelt, die zum Teil bereits in den Siebzigern entstanden sind (aufgenommen wurde aber alles in diesem Jahr, also keine Angst vor irgendwelchen verstaubten Sounds. Die Musik reicht von Neo-Prog bis AOR, daneben gibt es einige Trax, auf die eher der erste Teil des CD-Titels passt, also die "classical music". Das alles ist sehr harmonisch und melodisch, also nix für die Heavy - oder Frickel-Fraktion.

Auf gar keinen Fall aber ist "Classical Music and Popular Songs" nur IQ-Allessammlern zu empfehlen, dafür ist das Songpotential einfach zu gut. Wertung: 7

The first soloalbum of IQ-keyboarder Martin Orford is an kind of an musically history of the artist. Although if all tracks were recorded in 2000, some of them were already written in the seventies. The record feartures all the members of IQ and Jadis so as John Wetton, the musical focus reaches from neo prog, AOR to symhonic classical trax. All songs are very melodic and harmonic and the potential is much to good to believe, this could be an record for IQ freaks only. 7 points
