Mindcage "Encapsulation" english summary

Druckvoller und ungewöhnlicher Progmetal aus den USA ... das sind MINDCAGE.

Mit Outrage wartet ein hörenswerter Progmetal-Happen auf seine Entdeckung. Er beginnt mit einer Spieluhr, abgelöst von straightem und griffigem Metal. Wo bleibt denn da der Prog ... auch ich habe mir diese Frage sofort gestellt. Nach 3 Minuten schleicht sich die progressive Komponente unauffällig und songdienlich ein. Es folgt eine QUEENSRYCHE-ähnliche Ruhepassage, bevor der Song in grimmiger Manier so richtig angreift, bevor's noch mal so richtig stampft (diesmal mit Brenda Baker an den vocals) und sich der Song mit sanftem Progmetal in einem Kinder-Gutenacht-Lied zu Ruhe bettet. Wenn die Vocals etwas routinierter klängen, hätten wir hier einen deftigen Underground-Smasher.
Between the worlds ist eine interessante Nummer, die leider nicht greift ... streckenweise an einen Mix aus MOONDAZE und FATES WARNING erinnernt, dann wieder laut und hymnisch aufschreiend. Schade. Chains of freedom erinnert an FW auf "Inside out" und QUEENSRYCHE auf "The warning", klingt jedoch vom Timing ab und zu etwas suspekt. Auf No more kommt erstmal die Keule raus ... ein packender Progmetal-Instrumental-Part, der in wohlgefallenden sanften Prog-Metal übergeht. A turn of events lässt tollen Progmetal-Balladen-Flair zwischen frühen FW und QUEENSRYCHE wehen, wenn auch noch nicht so abgezockt, aber dennoch sehr stimmig und mutig abwechlunsgreich. Klassetrack !! Goodbye ist zwar um Drive und Riffstakkati bemüht, doch fehlt dem Track der entscheidende Hook sowie ein erkennbarer roter Faden.

MINDCAGE haben mit dem dramatischen Outrage und dem hervorragenden A turn of events wirklich tolle Ansätze. Der Rest der Tracks haut aber noch nicht so richtig vom Hocker. Wertung: 5

MINDCAGE are a progmetal band from the USA. Their progmetal ranges between bands like (early) QUEENSRYCHE, MOONDAZE and FATES WARNING. Sometimes their songs offer headbangin' straight metal. But somehow this album does not hook into your ears. This is really a pity because this band has great ideas and some great compositions (Outrage, Turn of events which would be tremendous smashers if the vocals would be more charismatic and more precise. The track Goodbye really tries to kick butt .... but it lacks of a hook and a recognizable theme melody. Between the worlds has some great hymnic parts, but this track did not grab myattention, too. No more is a powerful progmetal to soft progmetal song ... varied and good. Chains of freedom sounds like Fates Warning on "Inside out" mixed with Queensryche on "The Warning", but sometimes the timing / rhythm is not smooth enough.
Some songs show, that this band has great ideas but overall this CD will not be the bigh breakthrough of MINDCAGED. Nethertheless I am sure that their next demo will be a highlight 'cause MINDCAGE are on a very good way. 5 points
