Oratory "Illusion dimensions" english summary

Aus Portugal stammen ORATORY, die mit "Illusion dimensions" ihr Debüt vorlegen. Die Band wurde 1994 gegründet und hatte 1999 bereits eine EP namens "Last prophecy" veröffentlicht, die das Interesse einiger südeuropäischer Label auf sich zog.

ORATORY werden besonders Fans aus dem gemäßigten Metalbereich ansprechen, die auch mit der einen oder anderen Melodic Speedmetal-Passage etwas anfangen können. ORATOY geben sich Mühe, melodisch-straighten Mid-Tempo-Metal mit speedigen Einlagen, klassischen Einlagen und klaren Songstrukturen aufzutischen, was ihnen auch annehmbar gelingt. Der Abwechslung dient der wechselne Gesang von Ana und Marco, denn Ana sorgt dadurch immer wieder für melancholischen Gothicmetal-Flair. Damit wir uns nicht falsch verstehen: ORATORY sind sicherlich Portugals vielversprechendste Band auf diesem Sektor, jedoch wird "Illusions dimensions" der kometenhafte Aufstieg noch verwehrt bleiben, denn dazu fehlt es dem Album an Kraft. Die Vocals sind gut und nett (aber nicht mehr), der Sound - vor allem der Bassdrum - ist zu dünn, die Keyboards klingen nach billigstem Sägezahn und irgendwie wirken die Songs so, als könnte man am Gesamtbild noch eine integrative Komponente draufsetzen. So kommt es leider, daß hervorragende Kompositionen mit Hymnenpotential wie Kingdom's legacy, Fight for the light, Rising land, Metal messenger und das symphonische Instrumental Galaxy ihr Potential nicht 100%ig ausspielen können.

Sehr gutes Debüt, aber unter der Flagge von Limb Music/Inside Out hätte ich eine bessere Produktion erwartet. Wertung: 5

ORATORY are a melodic metal / melodic speed metal band from Portugal. The band was founded in 1994. Their 1999 EP "last prophecy" earned them the attention of several southern european labels. "Illusion dimensions" is their debut album. ORATORY combine melodic midtempo metal with melodic speedmetal parts, paying attention to a very clean structure of their songs all the time. The combination of male and female vocals is very well done, but not spectacular in their effect. ORATORY are one of the most promising portugese metal bands for sure, but "Illusions dimensions" is not convincing enough. The album lacks of power, the vocals are nice (but not convincing), the sound is weak - is that what a portugese bass drum sounds like ... "blepp blepp" ? ;-) - and some keyboard sounds sound too simple. It's a pity that great compositions such as Kingdom's legacy, Fight for the light, Rising land, Metal messenger and the symphonic instrumental Galaxy loose their hymn-effect because of the feeling that there is something missing. Don't get me wrong ... this is a good debut of a very promising band ... but I did expect a better production by Limb Music/Inside Out. 5 points
