Rick Ray "Cast into our dimension" english summary

Leider gänzlich ohne Bandinfo flatterte mir die vorliegende Promo ins Haus.

Tja ... wie will man diese Scheibe beschreiben. Naja am besten, indem man die Stilkomponenten aufzählt: Psychedelic, 70ies Flair, Fusion und "Kiffer"-Prog (sorry, aber mir fiel kein passenderer Vergleich ein) mit abgedrehten Melodien, bei dem auch ab und wann mal eine Beatles-Brise wehen darf. Kommen mir als nicht gerade Die-Hard-Progger so manche Songs ein wenig zu psych-proggig rüber, so begeistern mich aber die ambienten Instrumentals (z.B. Guitarm and hammer, A wheel within a wheel) um so mehr. RICK RAY beherrscht die Gitarre exzellent, bei den Vocals kann man sich streiten ... zumindest werden seine Gesangsschwächen durch den sympathisch abgefuckten 70ies-Kellersound gut kaschiert.

Wohl eher eine Scheibe für 70er-Nostalgiker. Diese erhalten mit Rick Ray's "Cast into our dimension" aber fürwahr einen - wenn auch gewöhnungsbedürftigen - Ritt in eine andere Dimension. Wertung: 3

As I did not receive a band biography for this album I can only guess: RICK RAY seems to be a very nostalgic and very skilled guitar player from the USA. His album "Cast into our dimension" is a ride back in time. Nebulous psychedelic atmosphere, freakin' fusion prog with strange melodies is what you get here. As I am neither a die hard progrocker nor a big fan of 70ies psych-prog I do not receive much from this album, except the great instrumentals Guitarm and hammer, A wheel within a wheel. Especially these two tracks show that Rick is a real guitar madman reminding me of good old Gonzo Nugent. The vocals are average, as is the drumming (sounds like a drum computer) ... but somehow these weak point fit into the dense "stoned people in a cellar during the 70ies"-sound ;-). If you like 70ies rock with psychedlic and strange antmosphere, you should give Rick the chance to take you into his dimension. 3 points
