Riot Act "Maniacal disastrophe tour" english summary

Der 70ies psychrock workaholic RICK RAY hat über Neurosis Records mit seiner Band RIOT ACT sein x-tes Album innerhalb weniger Jahre fertiggestellt.

Vorliegende Scheibe ist die wohl bislang beste Veröffentlichung von RICK RAY. Für Progmetaller und Progrocker heisst das zwar immer noch "total uninteressant", aber für Fans der ersten beiden VAN HALEN Scheiben und Anhänger von keller-rauchdurchtränkten 70ies psychedelic rock heisst es aufgepasst, sofern man in punkto Sound und Vocals einige Abstriche verkraftet. Das Spektrum dieser Scheibe reicht von guten verträumten Songs (Thinking about you) über gute straighte Tracks im frühen VAN HALEN-Stil (She could win an award) bis (leider allzu oft) 08/15-70ies Psych-Rock, der durch die kaum auf Melodie angelegten, charakterlosen, mies verhallten und streckenweise gut danebenliegenden Vocals ziemlich verätzt wird. Wie immer ist die Rick's Gitarrenarbeit tadellos und songdienlich, man kann auch nicht sagen, daß es schlechte Kompositionen sind ... im Gegenteil ... der trashige Sound und eben die amateurhaften Vocals vermiesen aber jegliches Potential der Songs.

Wohl nur fanatischen 70ies-Psych-Rock-Fans ans Herz zu legen. Denen jedoch wird's munden ! Wertung: 4

It is a shame. Another album with RICK RAY who is very good guitar player and a big composer of 70ies alike rock with psychedelic influences. And again it sounds so dissappointing to me. This time it is the band RIOT ACT. The songs are well composed and would have lots of atmosphere .... if the sound wasn't this thin and the vocals weren't that weak, shy and halled to death. I really can't understand why such a good and experienced musician needs to sing most vocals on his own instead of hiring a good and charismatic singer. Nethertheless for me RICK RAY with RIOT ACT is the best RICK RAY album so far. It sometimes reminds me of the early VAN HALEN albums, but not too often. "Maniacal disasttrophe" again is only suitable for people who love trashy 70ies rock atmosphere. 4 points
