Salem Hill "Not everybody's gold" english summary

Nachdem "The robbery of murder" den US-Softproggern SALEM HILL hierzulande schon einen festen Platz in der Insiderszene gesichert hat, liegt es nun an "Not everybody's gold", diesen Platz zu sichern.

"Not everybody's gold" sichert nicht nur mittlerweile festen Insiderplatz, sondern weitet diesen beträchtlich aus. SALEM HILL präsentieren sich auf ihrem neuen Album vielseitiger, packender, progressiver und ideenreicher als je zuvor. Griffige Neoprog-Elemente im Wechselspiel mit angenehmer Soft-Frickelei. Alleine deas eröffnende Instrumental Prelude gehört wohl zu den besten Tracks, die SALEM HILL jemals verbrochen haben. Riding the fence ist eine schnelle, melodische Rocknummer mit Progstreuseln. Von unserem dritten DURP-Sampler hinlänglich bekannt sein dürfte die balladeske Proghymne The last enemy. January türmt eine schwere, düstere und Progrock-Mauer vor dem Zuhörer auf. Zur Diskussion für unseren dritten DURP-Sampler stand das fulminante Let loose the arrow, eine furiose und beardige Progrock-Nummer mit Groove, atmosphärisch mehrstimmigem Gesang und einer tollen Kirchenorgeleinlage zum Songende. Bombastische Vielschichtigkeit gibts auf We don't know. Sweet hope suite schlägt dem Faß dann engültig den Boden aus. Eine schulmäßige 27-Minuten Prognummer mit allen denkbaren Facetten ... dramatisch, freakig, spannend, entspannend, treibend, gleitend ... so macht Progmucke richtig Spaß, auch dank Kirchenorgel ! Nach 5 Minuten Stille gibts noch einen augenzwinkernden Kult-Abschlusstrack in witzig-dümmlicher 70er-Manier.

SALEM HILL dürften mit diesem Album den Vorstoß in die Spitzenklasse der internationalen Progszene geschafft haben. Klasse Teil ! Wertung: 8

"The robbery of murder" was a quite successful album for SALEM HILL as it could establish the US prog band in international insider circles. "Not everybody's gold" will boost SALEM HILL's popularity like no other of their albums before. The band has become more varied, more dramatic, more progressive and much more creative. The great instrumental Prelude kicks off the album with catchy neoprog and soft complexity. Riding the fence is a fast and typical SALEM HILL track. The last enemy is a neoprog ballad which is featured on our third DURP compilation "DisDURPance Vol.3". January raises a heavy wall of prog, followed by the beardy Let loose the arrow and the bombast-prog track We don't know. The opus of this album - and even now an alltime classic of SALEM HILL - is the old school prog opus Sweet hope suite which features 27 minutes of breathtakinng music offering every type of mood you can expect from this genre. The track features 5 minutes silence followed by a weird, freaking silly and beautiful 70ies cult nonsense which will make you laugh like I did. SALEM HILL have recorded one of this year's prog highlights ! A stunner ! 8 points
