Spock's Beard "Don't try this at home" english summary

Inside Out wollen in diesem Jahr mit Spocks Beard in die Album Top 100; das neue Studioalbum wurde für Sommer 2000 angekündigt. Bis dahin gibts von der "Day for Night"-Tour einen Live-Mitschnitt namens "Don't do this at home".

Mir kam dieses Album grade recht, denn mit dem Studioalbum "Day for night" konnte ich mich nicht auf ganzer Linie anfreunden. Die Tracklist enthält das wichtigsten Tracks von "Day for night" und mit Mouth of madness und June auch zwei ältere Tracks. Leider sind The light, The doorway und Thoughts nicht enthalten, ist aber auch nicht weiter schlimm. Die fünf Übermusiker verbreiten den von ihnen gewohnten Live-Flair, vor allem Dave Mero's Bass ist wahrer Ohrenschmaus, der Satzgesang während des furiosen Gibberish kommt einfach fein, June geht gewohnterweise ein Akustik-Gitarren-Duett voraus und mit dem 20-Minüter The healing colors of sound gibts zum Abschluss das dicke Brett.

Wer Spock's Beard noch nicht kennt, der kann sich mit diesem Live-Album von der musikalischen Stärke als auch Live-Klasse des Quintetts überzeugen. Für Fans bietet das Album logischerweise nicht viel Neues, "Day for a night"-Zweifler wird auch die Live-Variante nicht überzeugen ... zumal der fantastisch klingende Live-Mitschnitt meilenweit von Hexenkessel-Stimmung entfernt ist (man erinnere sich an die ersten "The light" Auftritte in Deutschland) es fehlt irgendwie der frenetische Szenenjubel und Neil's Anfeuerungen. Trotz allem: SPOCK'S BEARD sind einfach die Progrock-Band derzeit, egal ob Studio oder Live. Wertung: 6

Before their next studio album (scheduled to be released in summer 2000), SPOCK'S BEARD have released a live album from their "Day for night" tour. "Don't do this at home" contains the most important songs from "Day for night" and two older ones (Mouth of madness and June). This recording proofs: SPOCK'S BEARD are the progressive rock band nowadays. I have to admit that have seen more enthusiastic SPOCK'S BEARD gigs than the one(s) that were recorded, so I think, "Don't try this at home" gives nothing new to true fans. If you still should not know this band, this live album gives you a great chance to find about their outstanding musicianship and live quality. Fans that don't like the "Day for night" album won't like this live album, too. 6 points
