Stramonio "Seasons of imagination" english summary

Im attraktiven Digi-Pack (tolles Artwork von Luis Royo) kommt das neue Album "Seasons of imagionation" der Italo-Progmetaller STRAMONIO daher.

Holla ! Leichter Tobak ist das nicht, den das Quartett da zum Besten frickelt. Abschreckend ist der Tobak jedoch auch nich ... im Gegenteil: absolut interessant, denn die Jungs vollführen eine Gratwanderung zwischen melodischem Metal, zünftigem Progmetal und Hackfleisch-Breaks. Kaum ein Song kommt aus einem Guß daher, aber komischerweise stört's mich bei diesem Album nicht, denn die Kontraste sind einfach zu gut und so richtig aneinander geklebt klingt es eigentlich auch kaum. Funkeinflüsse, Metal, Progmetal, komplexe Rhythmen, abgefahren Gesangspassagen, Jazz-Elemente, melodischer Schwermetall, Flöte, hämmerndes Klavier, purpeliger Jam-Rock ... alles bunt gemischt und man weiß nie, was einen gleich wieder erwartet. Das Paradebeispiel hierfür ist Ashes in the wind, das es streckenweise schon fast übertreibt. Schon fast in SIEGES EVEN Tradition präsentiert sich "I swim in the Air", jedoch etwas metallischer. Phänomenale Arbeit an den Instrumenten, mehrstimmige, komplexe Gesangslinien, Breaks bis zum Schwindelanfall, aber irgendwie packens die Jungs immer wieder, den Hörer mit einem erneuten Break wieder zurückzuholen. Da kommt zum Durchatmen das tolle The song of the harvest fly grade recht. Balladesker Start, melodischer Powermetal im Mittelteil, ab und zu eine komplexe Passage ... aber größtenteils straight und butt-kickin'. Vital elation verblüfft dann noch einmal: neoproggiger Start, dramatisch stampfender Progmetal zur Songmitte, klassische Einflüsse gen Ende.

Für Progmetal-Frickel-Fans und Jazzmetaller ein absolutes Muß ! Ich hab das Album jetzt dreimal gehört und finde es klasse. Irgendwie habe ich aber eine komische Vorahnung oder um es mit DREAM THEATER zu vergleichen: "Scenes from a memory" gefiel mir eine Weile hervorragend. Die Scheibe hat aber seit mehr als 4 Wochen meinen CD-Player nicht mehr von innen gesehen ... und irgendwie reizt mich auch nix mehr dran. "Images and Words" hingegen begeistert mich auf Anhieb immer wieder. Ich befürchte, dieses Schicksal könnte auch STRAMONIO ereilen ... am Anfang "Boah, geiiiiil !" und nach einen halben Jahr bleibt aufgrund fehlender Wärme und übertriebener Komplexität nicht viel hängen. Einen Versuch sind STRAMONIO aber auf alle Fälle Wert. Wertung: 7

Wow. That's a complex one. STRAMONIO are six italians playing the soul out of your minds. Their music: Progressive metal with high technical playing skills, lots of breaks, influences from the genres jazz, funk and purple-esque rock. Sometimes this album gives you a great powerful metal bang, then you find yourselfes in jazzy metal with flute and in the next moment you receive a melodic and straight melody. Given the playing skills this album is simply great. If you are looking for an album that challenges you to listen to it again and again until you find the mystery within, then STRAMONIO is your choice. After listening to it three times my opnion is "Yeah, this album is great and highly interesting". But I said the same about DREAM THEATER's "Scenes from a memory" during the first weeks ... now I don't care about it anymore because theres not that warm athmosphere like "Images and words" has it. But anyway: Find it out for yourselves ... STRAMONIO deserve to be heard. 7 points
