Symphony X "V - The New Mythology Suite" english summary

Die Amis hatten ja ihre ersten vier Alben recht schnell hintereinander veröffentlicht, was dann wohl doch dazu geführt hat, dass die Kapelle mit ihrem letzten Release "Twilight In Olympus" nicht mehr das Niveau ihres bis dato besten Albums "The Divine Wings Of Tragedy" aus dem Jahre 1997 erreichen konnte.

Jetzt hat man sich etwas Zeit gelassen und so nebenbei auch noch einen Major Deal mit EMI eingesackt. Wer damit jetzt Befürchtungen hinsichtlich eines Stilwechsels in kommerziellere Gefilde befürchtet, der kann sich entspannt zurücklehnen. An den typischen Markenzeichen der Band hat sich nämlich nichts geändert - das Kind heisst immer noch melodischer Metal mit sehr starken symphonischen und progressiven Elementen. Besonders gelungen sowohl die Gitarren - Keyboard - Duelle als auch das Verschmelzen von heavy und symphonischen Parts, was in dieser Qualität nur selten geboten wird. Besonders die Metal-Klassik-Symbiose erreicht gelegentlich schon epische Soundtrack-Ausmasse und zeigt, dass die Band hier deutlich zugelegt hat. Aber auch die progressiven Tendenzen wurden erweitert, und ich kann mich jetzt nur noch nicht entscheiden, ob "V" bloss genauso gut ist wie "The Divine Wings Of Tragedy" oder noch besser.

The first four studio albums of Symphony X were released very quickliy, with the result, that especially the last album "Twilight In Olympus" didn't reach the high level of the really great "The Divine Wings Of Tragedy". Now the artists took a little bit more time and in addition they also got an major deal. The prog people are mainly a little bit sceptical about major deals, because such things often mean a move into a more commercial direction. Fortunately in this case all doubts are groundless, the music of Symphony X is still the same - melodic metal with progressive and very strong classical influences, great battles between keyboards and guitars and sometime an epic feeling like listening to an soundtrack. A perfect sound and an really good artwork too make "V" to one of the metal highlights of the year. 8 points
