Mehr als 20 Musiker hat der gute VINE SWEETLAND um sich geschaart, um sein poetisches Konzept "Light shining in the distance" zu verwirklichen, das in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Sitar-Spieler Rahul Sakyaputra entstand. VINE SWEETLAND hat in den USA bereits mehrere Auszeichnungen bekommen, z.B. als "best poet 1998" oder "Best spoken word CD 1998".

Der 73-Minuten-"Song" erzählt von einem sterbenden Guru, der einer jungen Raupe seine Weisheit einhaucht. Noch während die Raupe aus dem Haus in den Jungel kriecht, erlangt sie das Bewusstsein, daß sie der letzte Schmetterling auf Erden sein wird. Auf ihrer Reise erlebt sie Freundschaft, Verrat, Schönheit und Schrecken.
Der Zuhörer begleitet die Raupe auf ihrer Reise und erlebt mit ihr ihre Entwicklungsstadien. Die vorliegenden 73 Minuten musikalisch einzustufen, ist so gut wie unmöglich, denn man hat es hier mit einer Psychedelic Opera zu tun, die kaum Strukturen enthält, die man als klare Songs bezeichnen könnte. Dennoch zaubern die vielen exotischen Instrumente dank ihres stimmungsvollen Einsatzes eine magische und eigenartige Atmosphäre, die zwischen gepflegtem Hippietum, exotischer Worldmusic, Psychedelic und Soundscapes anzusiedeln ist.

Nichts für Nebenher-Hörer. Dafür aber ein Juwel für Leute, die das Ausgefallene suchen und die einer CD mal wieder richtig viel Zeit zukommen lassen wollen.

VINE SWEETLAND is one of the most important artists in the spoken word scene in the USA. Vine has gathered more than 20 musicians in order to record his poetic concept "Light shining in the distance". The CD contains one (non-indexed) 73 minutesong telling the story of a caterpillar that is given wisdom by a dying guru and during it's adventurous journey it realizes that it will become the last butterfly on earth. The CD takes you on the journey with this caterpillar and through it's stages of life. What you get here is a 73 minutes psychedelic opera with lots of exotic instruments creating a magic and unique atmosphere. It's nearly impossible to discover any structures that could be called a song but nethertheless this is a highly interesting CD offering hippie-ism, exotic world music, psychedelic and soundscapes.
