Vivid "Time of Revelations" english summary

Die Spuren von VIVID beginnen im Jahr 1982. Nachdem sich die Band von FIRE in BLACK FIRE und letztendlich 1984 in VIVID umbenannte, absolvierten sie einige Club-Gigs, Nachwuchsfestivals und lösten sich aufgrund zeitlicher und finanzieller Probleme 1989 auf. Einem Zusammentreffen in einer Stockholmer Kneipe im Jahre 1998 ist es zu verdanken, daß die Band aus den über 60 Songs, die in der Zeit von 1982 bis 1989 entstanden, 15 Stück auswählten, um diese aufzunehmen und unter dem treffenden Titel "Time of Revelations" zu veröffentlichen.

Was die 6 Schweden hier abziehen, kann sich in Underground-Kreisen gut hören lassen. Leicht progmetallischer, straighter und melodiöser Heavy Metal. Die Kompositionen sind allesamt schlüssig, eingängig und variantenreich, denn man bekommt straighte Rocker (Stone of Izantar, When the twin suns rise), einen atmosphärischen Mystik-Stampfer (Time of Revelations), herrlich schwerfällige Monolithen (Son of a hobgoblin, Gehenna), episch progrockende Mystik (Dawn of glory), feinfühlig atmosphärische Intros (Lost to the wind), eine gute Ballade (Crying) und sogar eine Rock'n'Roll-Nummer (Year of rock'n'roll). Tja ... wenn da nicht die Vocals wären, die mehr schlecht als recht sämtlichen Kompositionen sowohl Ausdruck als auch den Zahn ziehen. Nicht nur das pompös-fanfarige Schmuckstück Lost to the wind wird durch die schlicht und einfach zu oft am Ton vorbeisingenden Vocals verschandelt.

VIVID haben es versäumt, mit einer guten Produktion und ausdrucksstarken Vocals meilenweit aus dem Untergrund auszubrechen. Somit bleibt die Zukunft dieser talentierten Band wohl leider weiter ungewiss. Wertung: 5

The swedish band VIVID has re-united after 10 years and records 15 songs out of a pool of more than 60 songs that were composed from 1982 to 1989. This album makes me really sad. You wanna know why ? I'll tell you:
The band plays melodic metal with some progressive inclination. The compositions are very good. The album is varied is offers straight metaltracks (Stone of Izantar which contains the theme of Edvard Griegs 'Hall of the mountain king', When the twin suns rise), a mystical rocker (Time of Revelations), two great ponderous tracks (Son of a hobgoblin, Gehenna), one epic meloduc progrock-track (Dawn of glory), a sensitive ballad (Crying) and even one rock'n'roller (Year of rock'n'roll). So what makes me sad ? The vocals. For example take the epic jewel Lost to the wind ... great composition which is destroyed be vocals who have no expression, no routine and no charisma. Man this is really sad. VIVID should have put some money into a professional production and some efforts in finding a charismatic singer. By doing so "Time of Revelations" would have been the last underground album of VIVID. But as they didn't, I am afraid that only time will tell what will happen with this band in the future. 5 points
