Die Australier CHALICE verquicken Progressive Rock, Folk, klassische Elemente und soften Progressive Metal.
Rezension |

Summary |
CHALICE are a band from AUSTRALIA combining progressive rock and progressive metal. In their compositions folk and classic elements and can be spotted, too.
Concerning the riffing and the female soprano voice CHALICE remind me of german band HAGGARD. The riffing is strong, but not too dominant. The guitars
try to accompany the female vocals as well as the flute which is present in the background nearly all the time. The album has a strong and remarkable
medieval blend, trying to be varied and entertaining. Some of the songs do not have special melodic hooks and so the songs are hard to tell from each other. The female vocals are good and sound very beautiful several times, but they are not able to carry all of the songs far away as they mainly stick to the background melodies and chords. Nethertheless most of the instrumental parts are able to create a mystic atmosphere. CHALICE are a promising band ... but somehow something seems to be missing. There are some very good tracks to be found here, like the opener Jesters banquet and the mainly acoustic Abyss.
Fans of melodic metal should be careful here ... fans of HAGGARD's album "And though shalt trust...the sear" should check out this talented band.
