Die italienische Progrock-Band DOLLMEN existiert seit 1993 und hat seit dato keine Veränderung im Line-Up erfahren. Der Progressive Rock der Italiener weist einen starken italienischen Einschlag auf, was natürlich auch an den in Landessprache gehaltenen Lyrics liegt. The Kompositionen sind oftmals komplexer Natur, beinhalten aber auch einige dahingleitende Passagen. Der Opener Alice 2 vereint komplexe Melodien mit eine klassisch-inspirierten Gesangslinie. Der Sound des selbstproduierten Demos ist rundum o.k., lediglich in Punkto Druck könnte man noch ein paar Kohlen ins Feuer werfen. Q-Menda zeigt, daß DOLLMEN ihren Melodien auch freien Lauf lassen können, was insbesondere bei einem psychedelisch angehauchten Prog-Track wie diesem essentiell wichtig ist, um diesen griffig zu halten. Einige Male verfallen DOLLMEN in - für meinen Geschmack - zu eingängige Passagen, wo ich mir etwas Dramatik gewünscht hätte. Wer auf frühe RUSH-Alben steht und nahe am Melodic-Rock gebaut ist, mit Frauengesang und ABRAXAS-Anleihen etwas anfangen kann, sollte sich mit DOLLMEN mal etwas näher befassen.

The italian progressive rock band DOLLMEN exist since 1993 and still play in their original line-up.
DOLLMEN's progressive rock has strong italian flavour, of course because of the italian lyrics. The compositions often are complex, but contain
gently weeping calm parts. The opener Alice 2 features some very complex melodies and a somehow classic vocal melody. The sound of the this self-produced
demo is good, although it lacks of power a bit. Q-Menda shows that DOLLMEN are able to let melodies breathe in freedom ... a very soft and melodic song in the beginning ... in the middle the song adds some speed and becomes a psychedelic progrock track. The female vocals of Simona are good, but not outstanding.
The vocal lines stick too much to the main melodies and so it seems like something's missing. All songs are done nicely and somehow are easy to listen to. A few times it's too "easy listening" for me and I was wishing for some dramatic, atmospheric prog-elements. Sometimes these wishes came true (Delusione).
This release is not recommendable for the symphonic / neoprogressive fans because it mainly features the early RUSH-style of progressive rock.
Christorundum seems to be a bit of a line as it is metal track with growling vocals .. forget this one.
Fans of melodic softrock with femal vocals and progrock ingredients should check out this band. Somehow this demo reminds me of some releases of the polish progrockers ABRAXAS ... nice compositions with lots of highlights ... but overall there's something missing. DOLLMEN seem to be young and should continue their way ... this demo shows some very promising moments and skills, like on Morte ai 4/4 and Q-Menda.
