Die ehemalige Cyclops-Band der ersten Stunde meldet sich zurück - mit fast unveränderter Besetzung, neuem Album und eigenem Label.

GREY LADY DOWN hatten zunächst zwei Alben im typischen, an Marillion orientierten, Neo-Prog-Stil veröffentlicht. Das dritte Album "Fear" zeigte die Band dann deutlich komplexer, allerdings löste man sich daraufhin auf, veröffentlichte aber noch ein Live-Album als Abschiedsgeschenk für die Fans - und jetzt liegt dann doch als Comeback die vierte Studio-CD der Band vor. Star-Crossed kann man nun als eine Art Kombination aus den beiden ersten und dem dritten Studioalbum sehen - wobei das Ergebnis ein deutlicher Schritt in Richtung eigene Identität ist. Am besten wird das wohl an dem 13-Minutentrack "Fallen" deutlich, bei dem die Band zeigt, wozu sie fähig ist. Das Album ist abwechslungsreich und gut produziert, das Songwriting kann aber noch nicht in jedem Fall überzeugen. Der Gesang von Martin Wilson ist zwar sehr markant, aber sehr wahrscheinlich nicht unbedingt jedermans Sache.

Trotzdem, GREY LADY DOWN sind auf dem richtigen Weg, auch wenn sie sind noch nicht ganz am Ziel angekommen sind.

The
british band GREY LADY DOWN was one of the first and most
successfull bands of the Cyclops label. After two albums in the
neo prog style the band moved to a more complex direction with
their third record „Fear“. But then the band broke up -
not without the release of an farewell live recording. But now
the band is back with an new studio output and an own label. For
me star crossed is like a mix of the first two albums on one hand
and the third on the other. It's an great step forward to an own
identity, though I think the songwriting can be improved anyway.
Martin Wilsons vocals are extraordinary - but may be not be loved
by each prog fan. GREY LADY DOWN have not reached their final
goal - but the band is on the right way!
