KATAGORY 5 sind eine Progmetal-Band, ansässig in Salt Lake City/UT. Die Band wurde im Sommer 1999 gegründet.

Mein lieber Herr Gesangsverein ... die Jungs sind gut, saugut, spektakulär. Seit den späten 80ern habe ich auf ein Album gewartet, daß endlich mal wieder die geniale Gratwanderung zwischen progressive Kratzbürstigkeit und höchstinteressanten, semi-eingängigen Melodien vollbringt, wie das seinerzeit FATES WARNING mit "No exit" oder QUEENSRYHCE mit "The Warning" gelungen ist. KATAGORY 5 haben es geschafft. Komplexer und rauhgeschliffener Metal in leicht klirrendem Sound, Vocals die die Luft zerschneiden und Kompositionen zwischen anstrengender Komplexität, vertrackten Rhythmen und eingängigen Leads. Mehr gibts zu diesem Album nicht zu sagen !

Das Album ist noch nicht zu 100% perfekt, aber diese Undergroundband sollte auf dem Einkaufszettel eines jeden vernünftigen Progmetal-Labels stehen, denn KATAGORY 5 bringen altbackenen und zugleich frischen Wind in die aufgeweichten Freiflächen.

KATAGORY 5 are a progmetal band from Salt Lake City/UT. The band was formed in the summer of 1999 by Curtis Morell and Dustin Mitchell.
Man, these guys are damn fine ... pretty good ... headbashing .... spectacular. I wished upon every star since the late 80ies just to hear a progressive metal album like this again. Progressive Metal often is too epic, to keyboardish ... KATAGORY 5 bring back the progmetal in the style of FATES WARNING's smasher "No exit" and QUEENSRYCHE's "The warning". What this is ? Complex and raw metal in crystal sound, with vocals that cut the air and perfectly balanced between being strange, annoying, exciting, headbanging and catchy. This band has found a great mixture of complex riffs, syncopated rhythms, melodic leads and intense vocals.
This album is not 100% perfect, but it nearly is ... making this the best and most promising progressive metal underground release of 2001 ... by far .... nothing left to say ... quietus !
