LLANFAIR P.G. wurden 1993 in Petersburg gegründet. Das vorliegende Album wurde bereits im Jahre 1999 aufgenommen, wurde jedoch 2000/2001 nochmal neu aufgenommen. Dem Sound des Albums hat dies zwar noch nicht zur Perfektion verholfen, aber bei diesem rundum empfehlenswerten Release spielt das kaum eine Rolle.

LLANFAIR PG haben auf "Friendly Faces Bestiarium" 8 charmante und ausdruckstarke Songs in bester 70er progrock/folkrock-Tradition aufgefahren. Von Geige über Mandoline, Flöte, männlichen und weiblichen Gesang bis hin zu atmosphärischen Keyboards, Orgel und TULL-mäßiger Atmosphäre gibts alles, was das Herz begehrt. Die musikalische Umsetzung ist zwar nicht perfekt gelungen, aber der verbreitete Charme ist enfach einzigartig. Paradetrack ist das für eine Bühnenshow prädestinierte Juwel Blind dog, das mit stimmigen Keyboards beginnt, von Flöte und Kirchenorgel abgelöst wird, um dann in einen grimmigen Unterton im Stile von ELOY's The magician überzugehen. Erstklassig groovenden Rock gibts mit Werewolves. Mollie Browne kombiniert soften progrock mit melancholisch-verklärter Egar Alan Poe-Stimmung. Waterfalls and gardens vermischt mittelalterlichen Folk mit keltischer, griechischer und russischer Tradition. Carnival funeral und Witch hunt sorgen für mystische Geisterstunden.

Bis auf einige Timingprobleme zeichnt sich ab, daß wir in LLANFAIR PG in Kürze einen neuen Meister in Sache Progressive Rock/Folkmusik mit bestechendem Storytelling finden werden. "Friendly faces bestiality" ist ein einzigartiger und herausragender Underground-Release, der neben keiner JETHRO TULL Sammlung fehlen darf.

LLANFAIR P.G. were created in 1993. The band hails from Petersburg/Russia and plays celtic inspired progressive folk rock. This album was originally recorded in 1999 and was re-recorded in 2000/2001.
The sound of the album is not that perfect but this doesn't matter in that case. LLANFAIR have put together 8 nice progrock/folkrock tracks in the tradition
of the 70ies. You get fiddle, mandolin, flute, male and female vocals (the female vocals on Banshee song are not convincing and precise enough) and a bunch of very atmospheric songs. The great Blind dog for example, starts with atmospheric keyboards, flute and church organ and evolves to a haunting and highly mysterious song with a story within ... reminding me of a mixture
of ELOY'S Magician and some weird tracks of JETHRO TULL. The Werewolves song is a fine groovin' track. Rob's vocals are rough and some kind of mean ... but freakingly fitting the
70ies folkrock atmosphere. Both tracks are lifted up by entertaining celtic fiddle tunes. Waterfalls and gardens is a medieval instrumental with celtic, greek and russian traditional influences. Mollie Browne is a soft progrock song with some spooky Poe-ish atmosphere which develops to a real rocker in the middle ... a great track !! Carnival Funeral (a dark and tragic instrumental until too restless russian/celtic folk appears) and Witch hunt serve all mystic desires, too. The spook continues (and ends) with Witch hunt, an 11-minute dramatic piece using dark tunes and the recitation of historical documents (an epigraph to Malleus Malleficarum) and an old irish prayer).
Sometimes the timing seems to have problems but this is not a big problem as LLANFAIR P.G. are masters of prog/folkrockin' storytelling. "Friendly faces-bestiality" is a unique and outstanding underground release which should be part of every fan of 70ies hardrock/folkrock in the style of JETHRO TULL and lovers of celtic tunes.
