Progressiver Astral-Metal ? Ist das ansteckend ? Mit "Leaving your body map" stellen MAUDLIN OF THE WELL das Parallel-Release zu "Bath" vor.

MAUDLIN OF THE WELL sind die so ziemlich abgefahrentste DeathMetal-Band, die mir jemals untergekommen sind. Bei dieser Ausnahmeband
treffen progressiver Deathmetal und freestyle-fusion-Metal der Marke MESHUGGAH auf lange psychedelische Passagen, die aus Klangcollagen,
sanften und gewöhnungsbedürftigen Guitarakkorden a'la SIEGES EVEN sowie sich sanft aufbauenden Melodien bestehen. Der Einsatz von Klarinette, gezupftem Cello und anders gearteten Arrangements lässt sogar einige Male an KING CRIMSON oder FRANK ZAPPA denken. Das Ganze ergibt eine Mischung, der man sich kaum entziehen kann. Selbst Gegner von Death-Metal finden genügend progrockige Stellen, um sich diese Scheibe immer wieder anzuhören, denn der Deathmetal-Anteil der 60 Minuten liegt bei ca. 20%. Minuspunkte gibts für den ausdruckslosen und einige Mal nicht überzeugenden Gesang während so mancher Ruhephasen. Ist aber nicht weiter schlimm.
Im Gegensatz zu "Bath" ist "Leaving your body map" etwas ruhiger ausgefallen, was vor allem Fans von Alben wie TIAMAT's "Wildhoney" freuen dürfte.

MAUDLIN OF THE WELL verknüpfen Progmetal, astralen Fusion-Metal, psychedelic Rock und düsteren Folkrock zu einem höchstinteressantem Gemisch. Die ideale Zielgruppe sind Fans progressiven Schwermetalls (z.B. frühe TIAMAT, WALTARI), die auch mit KING CRIMSON, FRANK ZAPPA oder SIEGES EVEN etwas anfangen können.

Progressive astral metal ? What the hell is that ? You al know it ... take TIAMAT's stunner "Wildhoney" or the earlier works of TIAMAT. MAUDLIN OF THE WELL let progressive death metal collide with freestyle fusionmetal (in the style of MESHUGGAH) and long psychedelic parts, often using sound arrangements consisting of soft and clean guitar chords in the style of SIEGES EVEN. As the band uses clarinet, cello and some other instruments masterminds like ZAPPA and KING CRIMSON come to mind several times. Even if you hate death metal, you will like this album as it contains many progrockin' parts. Fans of TIAMAT's early days (including "Wildhoney") should check this album out. "Leaving your body map" is a hot recommendation !
