Prologue / Vorab |
Rezension |

Summary |
NICE BEAVER are a band from the land where beavers roam ... the Netherlands ;-). "On dry land" is the first release of the 4 dutchmen and what a great
debut it is ! "On dry land" contains fine progressive rock, ranging from freakin'/groovin' fundament to neoprogressive heights. Progrockfans get everything
they love ... epic and weird parts (similar to FLOWER KINGS), rockin' parts (similar to groovin 70ies/80ies rock), oldschool progrock sounds, jazzy influences, complex but catchy vocal arrangments,
sophisticated instrumental parts with lots of sweat and joy, slightly psychedelic ingredients and very modern vocal arrangements. Just listen to Oversight and let
30 years of prog history rush by (literally RUSH) ... a great track drained with weird elements and charming melodies. Wintersong for example is a
very dark track ... complex but still extremely emotional. After these quite unusual tracks NICE BEAVERs even offer high quality with the melancholic downtempo neoprog ballad Hope you don't mind, which will melt the hears of all PINK FLOYD fans out there ... until ... yeah until the track becomes a freaking inferno of organ, great chorus arrangements, highly entertaining vocals and nugent-sound riffing.
The sound of this release is as convincing as the diversity and the quality of the vocals. NICE BEAVER are real masters in weaving carpets of comfortable and highly skilled music between dark rock, artrock, gonzo'ing 70ies rock and never-heard-before progrock. "On dry land" is a late, but extremely bright shining progressive rock highlight of 2000, even sometimes the vocals could be a bit more convincing and varied (especially during the last three tracks of the album.
