Pendragon "Not of this world" english summary

Nach den grottenschlechten "Once upon a time"-Rarities-CDs Vol.1 und Vol.2 war es wieder an der Zeit für einen begeisternden PENDRAGON-Release.

Begeisternd ist "Not of this world" geworden. Wer PENDRAGON mit den Rarities-CDs kennengelernt hat und sich davon hat nicht abschrecken lassen, wird die Band kaum wiedererkennen. Gut so !

"Not of this world" bietet melodischen Progrock der gehobenen Klasse. Ausschweifende Bildgewalten, geruhsame und routinierte Songkonstrukte, ohne Kanten, ohne Ausreisser, ohne Eskapaden und Technik-Albereien ... in perfektem Sound, mit stimmigen Vocals, facettenreichen Sounds (egal ob Gitarre oder Keyboards), schmeichelnden Background-Vocals von Tina Riley, klischeebeladenen Clive-Nolan Keyboards ... kurzum: rundum empfehlenswerten neoprogressiven Rock !

Als Beigabe gibts in der Erstauflage übrigens die Tracks Paintbox und King of the castle in jeweils akustischer Version.

Das fehlende I-Tüpfchelchen wären variationsreichere und ausdrucksstärkere Vocals gewesen ... zumal die Scheibe gegen Ende ein wenig abflaut. Dennoch stehen die Chancen gut, daß "Not of this world" in diversen Leser-Hitlisten am Jahresende am unteren Ende der Progrock-Top 10 vertreten sein könnte. Wertung: 7

After the dissappointing rarities-compilations "Once upon a time Vol.1 + Vol.2" it was time for a good PENDRAGON-release again. "Not of this world" contains 5 long tracks and the first producion series contains 2 bonus tracks: the acoustic versions of Paintbox and King of the castle. "Not of this world" offers melodic progrock of the upper class. Compositions full of images, soft and experienced song structures without edges and technical showcases. Instead you get good vocals, varied sounds, warm backing vocals of Tina Riley and of course Clive-Nolan keyboards. PENDRAGON are back with a very recommendable album which would be a killer if the vocals would be a bit more daring. Nethertheless this album might be found in the top ten's of this years reader polls. 7 points
