Es ist noch nicht mal ein halbes Jahr her, daß ROYAL HUNT "the mission" veöffentlicht haben. "The mission" wurde in Japan durch eine EP namens "Intervention Part I" promotet, welches das Konzeptalbum einleiten sollte.

Da es für den europäischen Markt sicher nicht genug gewesen wäre, einen 14-Minuten Song als popelige EP zu veröffentlichen, hat man schnell noch ein paar Live-Tracks rausgekramt, ein paar alte Songs neu eingespielt und das Kind "The watchers" getauft. Was sich anhört wir aufgewärmter Eintopf, schmeckt leider auch so. Der Song Intervention dümpelt ohne Highlights dahin, die Live-Tracks lassen sich kaum auseinanderhalten und die Neuaufnahmen reissen auch nicht mehr vom Hocker. "The mission" war ein mehr als brauchbares Album, aber "The watchers" mutet an wie ein billiger Abklatsch, um den Metalfans die letzten Markstücke aus den Eurogefüllten Umtauschtaschen zu ziehen.

ROYAL HUNT bewegen sich musikalisch nicht einen Milimeter voran ... das kann man bei einem Album pro Jahr verschmerzen, nicht aber bei 2 Alben in einem Halbjahr.

It's just a few months ago, that ROYAL HUNT released their album "The mission", based on the novel "The martian chronicles" of Ray Bradbury. In Japan, "The mission" was introduced by the EP "Intervention Part I".
As it would have been a bit nifty for the European market to just release that EP again, ROYAL HUNT added four live tracks and 4 re-recorded tracks taken from their first two studio albums. All together the release is now called "The watchers". The song Intervention lasts 14 minutes and is a standard ROYAL HUNT track, which means melodic metal with a slight touch of melodic rock and progressive metal, unfortunately the song does not have a single highlight. I liked "The mission" very much (although it was a pit too mainstream), but "The watchers" doesn't offer anything new. ROYAL HUNT still sound like on their last albums and that's ok once a year, but not twice a year. Could be that fans get some live jewels here, but I don't care ... in my opinion all melodic metalheads should save their money for something different !
