Sonic Debris "Velvet thorns" english summary

SONIC DEBRIS sind eine der Aushängeschilder des niederländischen Labels DVS Records.

Die Mischung aus diversen Stilen gibt bei SONIC DEBRIS den Ton an. Man findet 70er Hardrock, groovend alternativen Rock, knackigen Progmetal und proprockige Einlagen. Wenn man sich vorstellt, wie die SIMPLE MINDS auf einem Alternative-Trip klingen würden, dann trifft man den Flair des Album ziemlich gut. Das Album ist gespickt mit dezenten akustischen Effekten. Der Opener Kiss and kill fährt gleich zu Beginn die gesamte Bandbreite der Band auf. Weitere Highlights sind das vielschichtige Dead man, das straighte Virtual steps, das progmetallische New horizon sowie der groovige Progmetal-Hammer New angel.
Es gibt eigentlich nicht viel auszusetzen, naja, bis auf die Tatsache, daß die ganz großen Hooks fehlen.

Rockfans, die am Progrock genauso nah gebaut sind wie am Alternative Rock, bekommen mit SONIC DEBRIS ein dickes Juwel ans Ohr. Aber auch Open-Minded Progrocker/Progmetaller sollten sich die Band mal genauer anhören. Wertung: 6

SONIC DEBRIS from the Netherlands are a band which is difficult to put in categories. You find lots of influences in their music: 70ies hardrock, crunchy progmetal and poprock. If the SIMPLE MINDS would start a career as alternative rock band, they would sound like SONIC DEBRIS ... that's my impression of the atmosphere of these 5 guys. The opener Kiss and kill shows the spanning bandwith of the band, who is able to create interesting vocal arrangements. Other highlights of the album are the varied Dead man, the straight Virtual steps, the progmetallic New horizon and the groovin' New angel. Overall there's nothing bad to say about this album, except that it misses the big hooks.
Rockers who love both progrock and guitar oriented rock should check out this band ! Good work ! 6 points
