Bereits von 1998 ist der STORMWIND Output "Stargate", der erst jetzt den Weg nach Europa gefunden hat.

Hoppla ... angesichts der Klasse dieses Releases fragt man sich zurecht, warum er erst nach "Resurrection" in europäischen Regalen zu sehen ist. Das Konzeptalbum "Stargate" ist seinem Nachfolger nämlich in jeder Hinsicht ebenbürtig. Warum ? Na da wären z.B. epische Keyboardchöre, die hervorragende Hochton-Metal-Röhre von Angelica Häggström, die Stimmungsvielfalt (von Brechern über treibende Midtempo-Hymnen bis hin zu exotischen Instrumentals) und der progressive Touch. Leider fehlen auch auf diesem STORMWIND-Release zwecks Erkennungswert einigen Songs die markanten Gesangslinien. Songs wie Aliens, Time won't tell und Beyond lies erscheinen - auch angesichts der lieblos unterbuttert abgemischten Keyboards - irgendwie überflüssig. Auf der anderen Seite gibt's aber auch begeisternde Songs wie Hit by the sun, Masquerade of love, das klassische Miramar und Tears of confession. Vor allem auf letzterem zieht Angelica Haggström alle Register ihres Könnens ! Besonders gelungen ist übrigens des ALCATRAZ-Bonus-Cover Too young to die, too drunk to live (Meister Malmsteen's frühere Band) !

"Stargate" is the predecessor of the STORMWIND album "Resurrection". Again, STORMWIND offer powerful melodic metal with epic keyboards, varied songs and progressive inclinations. The female voice of Angelica Häggström is simply great ... unfortunately the albums fails in hooking most of the songs into the listener's ears.
During some songs the keyboards are mixed far away into the background making songs like Aliens, Time won't tell and beyond lies pretty useless. On the other hand there are great songs like Hit by the sun, Masquerade of love, Miramar and Tears of confession ... and of course the ALCATRAZ cover Too young to die, too drunk to live. Overall a fair and good album.
