Die Progmetal-Heroen SYMPHONY X beglücken ihre Fans mit ihrem ersten Live-Album. Die Live-Doppel-CD "Live on the edge of forever" zeigt schonungslos, daß SYMPHONY X auf der Bühne technisch genauso stark sind wie im Studio. Den beinharten Fans von SYMPHONY X, die ohnehin die meisten Alben der Band besitzen werden, wird das Live-Album keine neuen Erkenntnise bescheren. Daß SYMPHONY X mit zu den besten Technikern gehören, wissen wir. Daß sich die Band in brachiale, furiose und oftmals leider auch kalt konstruierte Technik-Feuerwerke verrennt, wissen wir auch. Daran daß die Jungs um Flitzefinger Michael Romeo immer wieder hervorragende melodische Hooks und symphonische Akzente platzieren können, hat sich glücklicherweise auch nichts geändert. Am Sound dieses Live-Albums ist absolut nichts auszusetzen ... ebensowenig an der Songauswahl.

SYMPHONY X Fans, die ihre Technikgötter schon immer mal auf einer Live-Scheibe bestaunen wollten, sind an "Live on the edge of forever" genauso gut dran wie Progmetaller, die sich mit SYMPHONY X vertraut machen wollen, wobei ich letzteren eher das Album "Divine wings of Tragedy" nahelegen würde.

Autumn time ... livealbum time. Now it's the progmetal heroes SYMPHONY X that come up with a live double album. "Live on the edge of forever" shows that SYMPHONY X are as strong on stage as they are in the studio ... in terms of technical matters. This album will not bring anything new to die hard fans. We all know that SYMPHONY X are skilled musicians. And we know that they get lost in technical constructions as well. And we know that they have great melodic moments and symphonic highlights. All that is to be found on this live document. Nethertheless: Metalfans that want to introduce themselves to the music of SYMPHONY X should choose the studio album "Divine wings of tragedy".
