Prologue / Vorab |

Summary |
"Psychedelicatessen" for sure is THRESHOLD's most essential album. Originally recorded in 1994 the album is now released as special edition in perfectly remastered sound and with a live bonus CD. The booklet contains liner notes, photographs and of course the lyrics.
"Psychedelicatessen" is not only an essential album of the the 90ies, it is a good one, too ;-). It contains all those typical THRESHOLD-trademarks: powerful guitars,
dark and dramatic atmosphere, nice chorus-arrangement, gloomy keyboards, hymnic instrumental parts as well as various progressive elements. Tracks like the epic and varied Into the light , the evil Sunseeker, the acoustic ballad Under the sun, the groovin' Devoted and the anti-military-intervention song Intervention are still great to listen to.
The bonus CD contains live tracks from "Psychedelicatessen" and "Wounded land". A nice bonus, but this one will only be useful for people not knowing the "Wounded land" album, which by the way has been rereleased as similar special edition, too. The CD rom track contains two music videos (Innocent and Tension of souls(live)), some live photographs, some short notes and a screensaver.
This rerelease should be picked up by all TRHESHOLD fans that don't have "Psychedelicatessen" in their shelves yet. Progmetal fans that simply like the music
of Threshold, but are not real fans should listen to this album first, because it is very similar to all newer THRESHOLD releases concerning the
similarity of the sound of all contained songs. Technically "Psychedelicatessen" is better than "Wound land", but in my opinion it lacks some of the melodic
sensitive flair and melodic variety of "Wounded land", especially concerning the vocal melodies and vocal variety.
