Prologue / Vorab |

Summary |
PROPHECY PRODUCTIONS from Germany are still one of my favourite labels. This label is the master of melancholic and beautiful music at the edge of metal and
avantgarde. A band perfectly fitting into the program of this fine label is ARCTURUS ... the masters or astral metal, now releasing their third album "The sham mirrors".
During some parts of the CD you can still feel the black metal past of ARCTURUS, but only concerning the sound of the guitars and the drumming. The vocals
are ambient and clean and of course the keyboards as well as lots of good ideas and samples add a great and haunting atmosphere to their music.
Take the melancholic keyboards or the stunning trip-hop intermezzo in Nightmare heaven (groovy bell sample), which freaks the hell out of your
soul, just to let you melt in beautiful astral metal over and over again. Another great track is the dramatic and keyboard-spooky opener Kinetic which
contains some highly hymnic vocals, too. Collapse generation gets all those blackmetal-heads out there and starts to shake them ... this is hard and fast like
hell but the keyboard synths and melancholic piano make this even an experience for non-blackmetal-metalheads, especially because of the melancholic
and releaving intermezzo in the middle of the track. Star-crossed is a dark and poundering track with vocals that could not convince me.
Radical cut kicks butt again ... this is a pure black metal track. If you've survived this one you have to get through the 9-minute For to end yet again,
which is good but - concerning the vocals - not good enough.
Fans of TIAMAT, WALTARI, EVEREVE, AMORPHIS, BORKNAGAER, SIGH should check out this band ... for me it was too heavy two times.
