Das Album wurde mit einer Vielzahl von Musiker aufgenommen ... man könnte also annehmen, daß es abwechlungsreich und stimmungsvoll ist, den Gesang eingeschlossen. Musikalisch siedeln sich BIG BIG TRAIN im Bereich Artrock, Soft-Psych-Rock und Ambient-Space-Alternative (ähnlich PORCUPINE TREE) an. Greifen wir mal einige Songs heraus ...
The last english tribe ist eine gute Nummer im Stile der alten GENESIS, Broken english enthält ausgedehnte sanfte Akustikpassagen mit weiblichem Gesang und schnellen Prog-Instrumental-Elemente, jedoch ist der Song zu lang geraten und verliert so an Charakter. This is where we came in hat einfühlsame Keyboards und sanfte Gitarren zu bieten, alles in allem ein primär akustischer Progrock-Song. Blacksmithing ist eine spacige Entspannungsnummer, leider wieder mit sperrigen Gesangslinien. Man kann der Band nun wirklich nicht vorwerfen, sie versuche nicht abwechlungsreich zu sein, denn das Album enthält einige äußerst kurzweilige (vor allem Instrumental-)Passagen, wie z.B. während Malfosse, Harold rex interfectus est und How the earth from this place has power over fire aber summa summarum ist das einfach nicht genug.

Zu nett, um mich wirklich unterhalten zu können.

BIG BIG TRAIN are a progressive rock band from Dorset / U.K. I saw them live at Progfarm some years ago. Now some years later we've received their
new release "Bard". The album was recorded with many musicians, so you should get a good variety of songs and moods ... including the vocals.
The music of BIG BIG TRAIN can be located somewhere between Artrock, Soft-Psych-Progrock and Ambient Space-Alternative (in the style of PORCUPINE TREE).
The last english tribe is especially suitable for fans of old GENESIS, Broken english contains long soft'n'acoustic parts with female vocals but
fast and straight-forward prog-instrumental elements, too .. overall the song is a big too long to keep my attention. This is where we came in offers
sensitive keyboards, soft guitars and overall turns out to be a very nice (primarily) acoustic progrock song. Blacksmithing is a spacy relaxed song, but
again I can't get into the main vocal lines ... they just don't grab me. The instrumental parts of the song are done very well. The band tries to keep
the album interesting with great and highly atmospheric short intermezzos like Malfosse, Harold rex interfectus est and How the earth from this place has power
over fire, but somehow they don't succeed. The album lacks of one or two highlights, I don't care regarding which element ... power, aggression
or melodic brilliance ... it's all nice and sensitive music but that's not enough to entertain me at the moment.
Nethertheless: If you like soft and/or acoustic progrock you should check out this release.
