Die deutsche Progmetal-Hoffnung BLANK PAGE waren ja bereits auf unserem Sampler "DisDURPance 2" vertreten. In der Zwischenzeit hat die Band einen neuen Sänger sowie einen neuen Bassisten an Bord.
| Rezension |
Die neue EP "Second reality" ist ein Fortschritt in nahezu jeglicher Richtung. Der melodische Progmetal der Band kommt in gutem und klarem Sound daher,
arbeitet mit starken Gitarren, atmosphärischen Keyboards, gutem Drive und (einige Male) furios aufblitzenden spieltechnischens Finessen. BLANK PAGE verlieren sich jedoch niemals in technischem Hochmut, sondern halten ihren kompakten Kompositionen jederzeit die Stange, denn darin enthalten sind weite Melodien, sanfte Elemente, vertrackte Arrangements und einige sehr hymnische Passagen.
Learning to forget beispielsweise ist ein eher zurückhaltender Song - im Vergleich zum spitzenmäßigen Opener In between -, verdient aber dennoch durch die tolle Arbeit am Bass und ein freakiges Gitarrensolo höchste Beachtung. Das balladeske Useless of words will mir nicht so richtig zusagen, aber der Track geht dann auch schon über in Second reality, das mit einem furiosen Instrumentalfeuerwerk loslegt und einige sehr schöne Momente beinhaltet ... bezüglich der Gesangsmelodien bedarf es jedoch einiger Gewöhnung, da griffige Momente - zumindest auf Anhieb - rar gesät sind.
| Fazit |
Nimmt man die stärksten Tracks von "Second reality" und "Surreal", dann würde sich eine Progmetal-Scheibe ergeben, die sich angesichts der Flut von mittelmäßigen Progmetal-Alben locker behaupten könnte. BLANK PAGE sind nach wie vor ein heißer Tip in der Progmetal-Insiderszene und verdienen so langsam jetzt wirklich einmal eine Chance bei einem Label.

BLANK have been featured on our second compilation "DisDURPance Vol.2". In the meantime the band has changed the name to BLANK PAGE
and now they are back with a new singer and a new bass player.
Their new self-produced EP "Second reality" is a big progress in nearly every way. The melodic progmetal of BLANK PAGE comes in good and clean sound,
features strong guitars, spacy keyboards, strong drive and great technical musicianship. Instead of losing track of their songs in useless
technical showcases BLANK PAGE stick to their strength ... and that's compact compositions with wide melodies. The CD starts with In between, which
will appeal to every "Images and words"-fan, but of course this is a typical BLANK PAGE-song ... typical melodies, soft elements, sophisticated
arrangements, hymnic bridges and lots of headbanging fun !
Learning to forget is a bit more down-tempo than In between, but still it's a great track with freakin' bass guitar and a strange but
damn cool guitar solo. Useless of words starts as a melancholic ballad which you have to get used to for a while ... but the track smoothly shifts
into Second reality, starting with a great and furious instrumental fireworks with smashing double bass drums, great keyboards and of
course melodic and epic moments, but somehow I don't get used to the vocals lines on this track.
BLANK PAGE still are a secret hot progmetal recommendation, hopefully they won't dwell in the underground any longer ! If you would take together the strongest tracks of "Second reality" and "Surreal" then BLANK PAGE should be given a chance to record their first official album at a professional metal/progmetal label right now !
