Die Geschichte der französischen Band FINAL TRAGEDY reicht zurück bis ins Jahr 1989, als die Band ETHERIC SOUL als techno-thrashmetal-Quintett gegründet wurde. Im Juni 1996 kam es zu Differenzen in der Band und Sängerin Delphine sowie Gitarrist Jean-Luc schlugen einen neuen Weg ein und der hieß FINAL TRAGEDY.

Schimpfen tut sich das Ganze wohl Progressie Metal. Die Musik basiert größtenteils auf schnellen Riffs, die mehr Rhythmik als Melodie aufweisen. Die Band versucht sich zwar redlich im Einbringen von Melodien, streckenweise gelingt das sogar (Speak the words). Instrumental gesehen versucht die Musik Atmosphäre aufzubauen ... unglücklicherweise ist der Gesang alles andere als in der Lage, zur Stimmung beizutragen. Die Vocals wirken uninspiriert und singen eigentlich während der gesamten Spieldauer völlig am Zuhörer vorbei. Dies führt mitunter dazu, daß man die einzelnen Songs nur schwer auseinander halten kann.

Einige Kompositionen zeigen sehr gute Ansätze und sind instrumentell sehr gut umgesetzt (z.B. The wait, Speak the words und Gift ? - Resurrection) ... gravierende Mängel gibt es jedoch auf Seiten von Gesang und Melodien.

The history of the french band FINAL TRAGEDY reaches back to 1989,when ETHERIC SOUL was founded as a techno-thrash-quintet. In June 1996 female vocalist Delphine and guitarplayer Jean-Luc decided to continue alone as FINAL TRAGEDY.
FINAL TRAGEDY play progressive metal. The style is not similar to usual progmetal bands. The music is sometimes based on fast riffs that are more rhythm than melody (i.e. Lethal pursuit). But primarily there are melodic attempts ... for example the sophisticated track Speak the words, decorated by clean guitar chords and sequenced keyboards. Instrumentally spoken the music tries to set hooks and build atmosphere (i.e One more time, The wait)... unfortunately the vocal arrangements are not able to carry the songs at all. They lack of clear melodies ... and even worse ... they could not touch me in any single way in terms of precision, atmosphere and souverignity. It's really difficult to tell one song from another (besides a few tracks). Some compositions are well thought and instrumentally have much potential (like The wait, Speak the words and Gift ? - Resurrection). In my opinion the band should try to focus on more harmonies and enhance the vocals.
