Jawollja ! Der King setzt sich mit "Abigail II" ein Denkmal und setzt dabei die Story von Abigail fort. Der deutsche King Diamond-Maniac Martin Laabs hat nach langer Arbeit das Album "The family photo" in die Tat umgesetzt und setzt darauf die Story von "Them" und "Conspiracy" fort.

Wer das KING DIAMOND PROJEKT noch nicht kennt, dem sei gesagt: Musik von einem King Diamond-Fan für King Diamond-Fans im King Diamond-Stil.
Auch wenn das Album home-made ist ... es besitzt Charme; beinharte Diamond-Fans kommen also nicht um diesen charmanten Release herum. Der Sound geht in Ordnung und sogar die King-alike Vocals verursachen charmanten Flair. Die Kompositionen sind hart, melodisch, stimmungsvoll und einige Male blitzen auch die dramaturgischen Elemente des Originals durch.
Worum es geht ? King stirbt mit den Worten "Whenever the dark is near I will return from my grave to haunt you, godforsaken whore" im Feuer und betritt somit IHR Reich ... das Reich der Toten. King's Mutter hat noch am selben Abend Dr. Landau geheiratet und es kommt wie es kommen musste: 9 Monate später wird Simon geboren. Seit 10 Jahren leben sie nun schon in AMON, von IHNEN keine Spur. Das Album startet mit einem Telefonanruf ... diesmal erhält King's Mutter einen Anruf aus dem Jenseits ... King kündigt Rache an. Über all die Jahre blieb der Spiegel auf dem Dachboden unberührt ... der Spiegel, der für IHR Reich das Tor zur Welt der Lebenden darstellt. Eines Nachts betritt Dr.Landau den Dachboden, um SIE für immer loszuwerden. Dr Landau ist ein straighter und melodischer Track, toll umgesetzt und in frühem Diamond-Stil.
Von der anderen Seite des Spiegels beobachtet King, wie die Tür zum Dachboden aufgebrochen wird. Der Doktor stellt den gesamten Dachboden auf den Kopf, suchend nach Antworten säubert er dabei den Spiegel ... und öffnet das Tor zu seiner Welt ... der Weg für KING und seine Freunde ist frei (Alive, Amon) ... AMON erwacht wieder zum Leben. Wie es weiter geht ? Ein Wort: Rache ... mehr wird nicht verraten.
Das Album beinhalte einiger prächtige Highlights, wie z.B. das atmosphärische Instrumental Amon (an Them angelehnt), die fantastische Nummer Haunted dreams (im Stil von "Abigail"), die verhangende Horrorballade Dreamland (Missy schwärmt von IHREM Reich), das komplexe Mirror, mirror, das dramatische Execution und natürlich das gruselige Outro The family photo. The bait ist zwar nicht der stärkste Song, wird jedoch Fans der "Fatal portrait"-Ära erfreuen.

Gute Kompositionen, Horrorstory und natürlich eine Verbeugung vor dem beständigsten Metalmusiker des Planeten. "The family photo" ist eine charmante Bereicherung für jede King Diamond-Sammlung, denn hier steht die Liebe zur Musik an erster Stelle !

Hell yeah. What a year. KING DIAMOND is contuining the story of "Abigail" ... and german King Diamond maniac Martin Laabs has finally recorded his continuation
of the story of "THEM/CONSPIRACY". Martin is a crazy, but nice guy loving the style and the horror of the music of metal masterming KING DIAMOND. His project
is called KING DIAMOND PROJEKT and the album is called "The family photo". The album is working with edited drums and keyboards, sound effects and is fully home made ... DON'T stop reading if you like KING DIAMOND. The album comes in okaish sound (well done for a home production) and even the King-style vocals are well done. Overall the sound has the nice charme of a KING DIAMOND demo tape and somehow that's the way you should look at this project. The music is of course ... heavy metal in the style of KING DIAMOND, of course not that technical but still demanding and entertaining in the same way.
Now what about the story ?
King has died with the words "whenever the dark is near I will return from my grave to haunt you ... godforsaken whore". Now he's in THEIR land, the land of the eternal living dead. King's mother and Dr. Landau married the same night when King died. 9 months later King's mother gave birth to Simon. She and Dr. Landau are still living in AMON, the old house and for ten years there was no single trace of THEM.
The album starts with a phone call ... this time it is KING ringing his mother: "I promised that I'll get both of you ... and this bastard child". The attic room was left untouched for all the time ... until some days ago: Dr. Landau broke the door in order to finally get rid of THEM. Dr. Landau is a straight forward, but still melodic track ... well done and entirely in early Diamond style, using a significant guitar chord theme and fast double bass drumming.
From inside the mirror (which now is locked up in the attic room and is the gate to THEIR world) King can see someone opening the door to the attic room. Dr. Landau - claaning up the entire attic room to find some answers - even wipes the mirror clean ... opening the gate for KING and his mighty friends and bringing back AMON to life (Alive, Amon). I could tell you the rest of the story but true KING DIAMOND fans should discover the story on their own ... all I can tell you is one word: REVENGE !!
The album features some special highlights, for example: the beautiful instrumental track Amon (in the style of the original instrumental Them), the highly melodic and straight headbanger Haunted dreams (a fantastic track with great chorus and great spooky atmosphere in the style of the albums "Abigail" and "Them"), the moody horror ballad Dreamland (Missy singing about the land of THEM), the straight forward Shadows, the atmospheric moody track The atticroom, the complex Mirror, mirror, the dramatic and epic track Execution which brings the story to it's climax and the horrifying outro The family photo. The evil The bait is not the best songs of this album, but it is reminding me of songs like The jonah and The candle and that's fine that way !
Overall: Think about the vocals and sound what you want ... the compositions on this release are damn fine, Martin is a great guitar talent and "The family photo" will fit the ears of nearly every true DIAMOND fan out there who defines the word "Heavy Metal" as "dedication and passion for heavy music".
