Mit dem Album "Waiting for the tide" haben sich die Schweden MIND'S EYE (1992 gegründet) bei mir einen Stein ins Brett gespielt. "A work of art" ist ihr neustes Album.

MIND'S EYE haben sich mit "A work of art" sogar noch gesteigert. Sauberer und differenzierter Sound rahmt die höchst emotionalen und feinfühlig vertrackten Kompositionen ein ... Kompositionen, die so voller Harmonie, Zweifel, Schönheit und Intelligenz sind wie ich sie selten gehört habe. Das Album bewegt und entwickelt sich von Song zu Song und dennoch bleibt es eine flüssige und kompakte Angelegenheit fernab üblicher Progrock/Softprogmetal-Pfade.
MIND'S EYE haben ihren eigenen Stil, Einflüsse von RUSH, YES, QUEENSRYCHE, ELO, QUEEN und GENESIS sind zwar spürbar, machen jedoch nicht den Sound der Band aus.
Härtetechnisch mit ENCHANT vergleichbar, weben MIND'S EYE feinsinnige Progrock/Softprogmetal-Songs, getragen von der angenehmen Stimme Andreas Novak's. Auf einem Song taucht sogar weibliche Unterstützung am Mikro auf (Room with a view) ... wem hier nicht wohlige Schauer über den Rücken laufen, der muss entweder tot oder feinfühlig wie ein Käptn-Iglu-Fischfilet sein. Das Album entpuppt sich als Konzeptalbum, tragischerweise mit einer textlichen Aktualität, die sich die Jungs wohl nicht erträumt haben ("a world that balances on a needle [...] we drown in a hope of a lie while you wash your filthy hands in a wishing well".

MIND'S EYE haben ein uneingeschränkt empfehlenswertes Progrock/Artrock/Softprogmetal-Album abgeliefert, das eine Vielzahl von Emotionen, Bildern und Stimmungen bewirkt.

The album "waiting for the tide" of the swedish band MIND'S EYE (founded 1992) in was one of my most respected progrock/soft progmetal albums of the last two years. So I was quite excited to get the new album "A work of art" into my hands.
MIND'S EYE are even better than before. Great and clear sound supply the surroundings for complex but highly emotional and sensitive compositions full of
harmony, doubt, beauty and intelligence. This album is moving and developing all over the place ... still being one of the must a fluent and tight experiences in years far away from common and boring progressive rock paths.
MIND'S EYE still have their own style and they even enhanced it. Influences from bands like RUSH, YES, QUEENSRYCHE, ELO, QUEEN and GENESIS can be felt, but not heard. The extremely comfortable and emotional vocals of Andreas Novak are weaving light-weighted melodies into the air, the rhythm section sounds more alive than a fresh sparkle of water, the guitars (no matter if acoustic or electric) faithfully support and carry the sensous but complicated compositions and the keyboards sum up that atmosphere of art with smart arrangements. If your soul does not melt during songs like Room with a view (beautifully supported by female vocals of Teresia Bjarneby) you must be dead or born without any trace of emotions. The album somehow turns out to be a thoughtful concept album with lyrical content up to date ("a world that balances on a needle [...] we drown in a hope of a lie while you wash your filthy hands in a wishing well").
I won't compare MIND'S EYE to any other band but concering the heaviness of their music I can mention early ENCHANT. Every other comparison wouldn't be of any use ... go out and get yourself this magnum opus of progressive rock / art rock / sensitive progressive metal ... you won't regret it as this album has lots of emotions, images and moods to offer ... carrying away your soul from the daily focus ... a focus which might be the wishing well we all wash our filthy hands in.
