Two Fires "Ignition" english summary

Two Fires sind das Projekt von Kevin Chalfant und Josh Ramos, das mit "Ignition" bereits in die zweite Runde geht, nachdem das Debüt aus dem Jahre 2000 als eine der besten Melodic Rock - Scheiben dieses Jahres gilt. Besonders was Kevin Chalfant betrifft, so kann er auf eine bewegte und erfolgreiche Vergangenheit zurückblicken, hatte bereits mit Bands wie "707", "VU" und vor allem "The Storm" in der Szene und darüberhinaus für Aufsehen gesorgt. Auf Betreiben von Frontiers kamen Chalfant und Ramos (der ebenfalls bei "The Storm" dabei war) wieder zusammen und "Two Fires" wurden geboren. Da Kevin Chalfant's Stimme immer wieder mit der von Steve Perry von Journey verglichen wird, dürften an der musikalischen Ausrichtung keine Zweifel mehr bestehen. Verstärkt mit namhaften Gastmusikern sowie Songschreiber Jim Peterik (Survivor) nahm man das zweite Album im Studio von Kevin Chalfant auf und was die Songs angeht, so will ich mit dem Ergebnis auch durchaus zufrieden sein. "Ignition" mag über weite Strecken ziemlich weichgespült daherkommen und nichts für Freunde härterer Kost sein, aber das ist ja in dem Genre durchaus legitim. "What The Whole World Needs To Know" entstand unter dem Eindruck der Ereignisse des elften Septembers 2001, darüber hinaus gibt es einen Gregg Rolie (ebenfalls ein Ex-Storm-Mitglied) gewidmeten Hidden Track mit starkem Santana-Touch.. Was mir wirklich massive Schwierigkeiten mit dem Album macht, ist der grottenschlechte Sound - wobei ich hoffe, dass das finished product nicht so miserabel klingt, wie die mir vorliegende Promo. Wenn ja, wär's wirklich schade drum.

Kevin Chalfant has a big history in the field of melodic rock, beside bands as 707 or The VU most fans may know him as member of "The Storm". In 2000 he joined forces with his friend and old "The Storm" mate Josh Ramos and the project "Two Fires" was born. After a very successful debut album we now have the second album, called "Ignition" and produced with the help of many famous guest musicians and songwriting support of Jim Peterik (Survivor), though Kevin is the involved in the songwriting anyway. The voice of Kevin Chalfant is very near to Steve Perry so its very natural, that Two Fires always were compared with Journey, but most of the melodic rock fans will never have a problem with this. In my opinion the songs of the new album work fine, more soft than really rockers, but we are in melodic rock - and so what? But I am not satisfied with the sound of the album, may be (hopefully) the sound of the promo album I got is not the same as the sound of the finished product - if yes, it would be a shame! 7 points
