Bei ULYSSES handelt es sich um eine junge Progrock-Band aus den Niederlanden.

Der Stil von ULYSSES ist zwar nicht gerade eingängig, dafür aber sehr interessant. Das Feeling der Musik ist progressive Rock pur, Sound und Vocals entstammen aber eher dem Progressive Metal Genre. Der Opener Hero for one day ist ein abwechslungsreicher Song mit komplexen Passagen, epischen Momenten und sphärischen Keyboards ... erinnert irgendwie an einen Mix aus FLAMBOROUGH HEAD, JESTERS TEARS und ETERNITY X ... das heißt zu deutsch: melodischer Neoprog werden mit komplexem Progrock, Progmetal und Artrock zu einer sehr interessanten und vielversprechenden Mischung zusammengerührt. Momentan besteht an den Vocals noch leichter Verbesserungsbedarf, wenn es z.B. um dramatische Momente wie während Hero for one day oder um Balladen wie Digital dimension geht. Die CD enthält übrigens einen nett gemachten Video-Track.

Ein charmanter und vielversprechender Underground-Release aus dem Land der Tulpen. Weiter so, ULYSSES !

The dutch band ULYSSES has sent us their demo "Eclectic". The style of ULYSSES is not that catchy, but therfore very interesting. The feeling of their music is progressive rock, the sound and the vocals are more like progressive metal. The opener HEro for one day is a very varied track with complex parts, epic moments and spheric keyboards, reminding me of a mixture of FLAMBOROUGH HEAD, JESTERS TEARS and ETERNITY X.
SO in other words ... melodic neoprogressive rock, complex progrock, progressive metal and artrock are combined in an extremely intersting and promising way. The vocals are not at their best stage of development yet, but they are very promising, too ... especially during the dramatic moments of Hero for one day or the ballad Digital dimension. As a special feature the CD contains a nicely done video track.
Overall this is a very charming and promising underground release. Fans of JESTERS TEARS must check out ULYSSES.
